Hm,
this is a very often asked question.
Suggestion:
Let´s make a few projects with standard iCLone items, perhaps a few freebies inside, too.
low poply
high poly
particles
some hdr light settings
mass scene
Each 1 minute long
These could be rendered with lowest quaility and highest. Than we could have a look at the fps-count, and publish this one with our system setup. Or we could measure the time needed to render the scenes finally.
So one can see which configurations have influence on whatever.
And also we would take care of Peter´s notice, the importance of the concrete OS setup and other running programms. If the hardware setup is nearly the same and the computing time very different, there must be something else :)
So it would be possible giving tuning tips :)
Good suggestion:)
However, Render "Benchmarking" has been tried many times over several years with various Pinnacle Studio NLE Program Versions, with no uniform PC Hardware Specs result.
IMO, it isn't physically possible - Far too many variables, as per Peter's Post.
Even if it was, I can't see iC Usrs ditching their current PCs in favo(u)r of a new one.
It also depends upon how far you want to go with iC. If you're a "Storyline" Editor (Like me) & intend to ultimately use all of iC's Features. Then, IMO, you need a PC Hardware setup similar to mine, that should be "Future-proof" for several years. Total cost for my "Complete" Hardware setup here, approximately £2,000. Duchess110 has a Standalone PC Workstaion only - £4,000!!!
Since most iC Users are Amateur "Consumers", rather than Professionals, they haven't got that amount of cash, apart from Upgrading RAM & Videeo Card.
That being said, if Reallusion have Developed iC5 or will Develop iC to utilise more CPU Processing power & less GPU Processing Power, then maybe a CPU rather than GPU Upgrade needs to be considered, if required. But that may include a new MOBO.
