To add to this: to modify the head in 3DXchange, select Face and then Export Mesh, which will save it as an .OBJ file. You can then make your changes and use Replace Mesh to reimport.

If you don't have Z-brush, there are cheaper (albeit less fancy) alternatives. I've down-loaded a trial version of Silo and found it easy to work with. It's a fully functioning trial, which let's you save. A free program is Sculptris; I used it to shape Silvie's face (see this post).

Thanks for the correction; I learned something!

Re: Sculptris = free. Who knows how much longer. Pixologic effectively "bought" Sculptris by "buying" its creator. (This was not the kind of competition they wanted.)

I'm sorry to hear that... Sculptris is really nice as a first introduction to this kind of sculpting, which I'm finding a lot of fun.

The concept looked interesting so I tried to modify an upper on one of my characters. I exported the mesh to a file then brought it into Blender, modified it and exported it back out. I then went back to 3DX and clicked on replace mesh and it gives me an error message saying to make sure the imported mesh has the same number of vertices as the old mesh. Well if it did it wouldn't have been modified now would it. I cut off the bottom of the jacket and it will not replace it. Why doesn't this work?

You can only tweak your mesh to in a new shape , but you can not delete or add polygons

You can move the vertices (corners of the polys), but you must not change how many there are.

It is possible to make 1 suit into 2 or 3 this way. I have sharpened shoulders, straightened lapels, and (slightly) lengthened cuffs.

Don't over do it though! Remember that the mesh is rigged to specific bones, and UV mapped. Stretching things to much will show distortions of the movements or textures.

You also have to make sure that the vertix order isn't changed. There was a post about this some time ago .

Well that's just great! How can someone make new clothes and add them to a character then? I tried making a new mesh and adding bones to it thinking it would attach itself to the character in the proper manner like the old Poser program allowed you to do, but when you bone a set of clothes, it just turns into a new character...LOL So I have a set of clothes dancing around with no head or members. Can anyone let me know how I would go about designing a new set of clothes for characters and getting them to apply themselves to the proper parts of the body?
