Hi guys,
I'm new to animation and I'm not sure if Cartoon Animator is the right tool and/or what other tools I need to combine it with.
I'm planning to make some very short 80's style animations (He-Men, Captain Future, Mask, etc.) so more humanoid, realistic characters.
At first I thought I would start with raster tools like Clip Studio Paint, but then I saw Cartoon Animator 5 videos on YouTube and was fascinated by how easy it is.
Now my question: is it enough to add a vector tool like Inkscape to draw characters and backgrounds etc. or is a PSD tool also required and for what exactly?

Any recommendations for a free psd tool, if needed?

Thanks a lot to all the creators participating

Regards
Stavros

Hi Stavros

All the character types you mention can be used and animated in Cartoon Animator 5.

In Cartoon Animator 5 you can create both raster characters or vector characters.

For raster characters we provide PSD templates for use with Adobe Photoshop, Affinity Photo, Clip Studio Paint and Krita. For vector characters we provide SVG templates for use Adobe Illustrator (recommended), Affinity Designer, Corel Draw 2019 or later or Inkscape 1.2 or later.

Which character format you create in is up to you. SVG has some extra features, but generally PSD is easier to create. For SVG only Adobe Illustrator enables full create and live editing options. With Affinity Designer, Corel Draw and Inkscape you only have create options.

I hope this helps. If you have any other questions please feel free to ask.

Hey Peter, thanks for the quick answer.

So if I use CA5 and Inkscape, it would be enough for characters, backgrounds etc?

Yes you can use Inkscape to create characters and other assets for CTA. Inkscape doesn't support live editing (where changes made in Inkscape automatically update in CTA5) but you can use the templates in Inkscape and then import the finished characters and other assets directly into CTA5.
