You have two (or more) armature modifiers. caseybasichis (2/28/2023)
... With Automatic Weights ... Retarget. What does this mean? What are you doing here? You don't need to remap the bone weights, they are already set up from the original mesh weights.

That list was meant to convey the minimal steps I'm taking. I tried without 'Automatic Weights' but it didn't appear to be skinned. Attached is an image of what it looks like if I skip the 'With Automatic Weights' stage. 75% of original size (was 675x19) - Click to enlarge Just picked up CC4 etc yesterday so it's entirely possible I'm fumbling some obvious step. I'm trying to import a character and retarget a stock character/animation as a sanity check.

How are you exporting the character from CC4?
The best export option to use (For Rigifying) is File > Export > FBX > Clothed Character (target: Blender uncheck Embed Textures, uncheck First Frame in Bind Pose, check Delete Hidden Faces)
Don't use: File > Export > FBX > All (Character / Prop / Camera), because it makes everything in the scene parented to a single armature which confuses the Rigify setup. (I think this is what's causing your problem here.)
