I've been a long time CC3 user and recently made the move to CC4. Been working on a few characters but suddenly I can't open one of the project files. Not only is this a total pain but I'm really worried that some of my other characters will suddenly become unusable. I've opened a support ticket but wondered if anyone else is having this issue, or have tips for retrieving my work.

Hi... Have you tried re-saving in CC3 as a character (.ccAvatar) rather than as a project (ccProject). Then try to open the character file in CC4. This may allow it to load successfully.

Do you mean try to open the .ccProject file in CC3? And if it opens then save the character? I didn't realise the file would be backward compatible, but I'll give it a go if that's what you mean.

So no. Can't open a CC4 project in CC3. I guess maybe you thought I'd originally done the work in CC3? This is a brand new CC4 project only worked on in CC4. Any other ideas? I'm seriously worried about having this happen again and continually losing my work. Doesn't exactly fill me with confidence in CC4...

I've had a couple of broken projects in Character Creator which cause a CTD if opened directly. I can usually recover them by first loading a neutral base, then open the broken project but don't replace all, only replace the character, then open it again and replace the outfit.

You're a godsend, as always. That worked great and I've now got my work back. Phew!

No I meant open the original CC3 project in CC3, then save the character from it but Victor came to the rescue anyway so hopefully all is good now.
