Hello,
Thanks for reading my post. I exported a simple, humanoid character (in T-pose) from CC4 as an FBX file. The target application was set to Unity.
I ran the Autosetup for Unity and didn't have any issues.
I downloaded a few free motions from ActorCore, again, target application was Unity.
Back in Unity, I dragged and dropped the extracted ActorCore motion FBX files into my project.
I clicked on the motion and the animation settings (Model, Rig, Animation) appeared on the right. I set the Animation Type to "Humanoid" and the Avatar Definition to the one generated when I ran the Autosetup.
When I clicked apply, I got an error about a rig mismatch and missing hip bones.
Could someone please explain to my why a Reallusion CC4 character doesn't just automatically work with Reallusion motions and more importantly, what are the steps that I need to do to make sure that my CC4 characters work with any ActorCore motions I may purchase in the future??
Thank you

stephenq80 (8/19/2022) Hello, ... I clicked on the motion and the animation settings (Model, Rig, Animation) appeared on the right. I set the Animation Type to "Humanoid" and the Avatar Definition to the one generated when I ran the Autosetup. ...This is where you went wrong. Actor core characters and CC4 character don't have all the same bone names so you can't re-use the CC4 avatar. Download the Actorcore animations with a character (not motion only) so it can auto generate an avatar for the animations.

Ah. Ok. That explains that. Thanks SoupDay. So if I understand correctly, back in Unity, I should be able to use my CC4 character, but, the Avatar Definition used should be the one generated for the ActorCore character? Question though, would the motions of the CC4 character look "off" at all since it is using a different Avatar Definition? I mean, how different are the rigs for CC4 characters and ActorCore characters? Thanks

This is a guess, but in iClone/CC there is built-in functionality that retargets the motion allowing it to be applied to different type characters. In Unreal the motion has to fit the character. I assume that for ActorCore motions this is the ActorCore character. You should be able to apply the motion in CC first and then export character and motion and then use it in Unreal. The resident UE experts may have a better idea. Victor was quicker...

Unity retargets quite well, but you should try to pick an ActorCore character as close as possible in proportion to the CC4 character.
But as Animagic points out, CC4/iClone can also do the retargeting (and better quality than Unity) and you can bundle all the animations with the character Fbx export.
