Am sure this must have cropped up before but can't seem to find a link in the Forum, though Google did give me something which I didn't understand:
This error indicates that you were applying iMtlPlus to an unmatched object. To apply iMtlPlus, first you need to select the corresponding object which has the same mesh name and material name.  For example, double click dress (FADSDB_F_Dress_A_L) first then apply .imtlplus with the same name (FADSDB_F_Dress_A_L) for it..
So, my problem is simple. I want to add some hair to an avatar, any avatar, just like I have done for years. The particular hair is Curly&Afro by Dorothy Jean Thompson, 2021 and even with the default  C3+ avatar we get on loading I get 'Failed to apply materials. Materials are not compatible with this object'. Other hair also gets this message. The only hair that works is going back years, to iClone 5. Something seems to have changed in my set up as all this used to be a doddle. How come things are now unmatched???

In my experience, this generally happens because I'm trying to apply a materials to a model that is different than that the materials is created for. This happens alot for me when I buy packs of something, like hair. The materials are not interchangeable. If I mistakenly grab the wrong material and drop it on the model, I will get that message. This is even true if you drop a "left sided" material onto the "right-sided" model (think of a pony tail falling on either the left or right side of the model).

Damn. Was hoping somebody had an answer. I know what the problem is but I can't find a solution. Basically, as of now my CC3 is useless. I can't create anything thanks to an error I have never, ever had suddenly appearing. Don't tell me I have to reinstall again!!!!

The default character. even tried using a generated character using Headshot. same issue. are you applying the variations or the hairgroup?   You hve to apply the hairgroup first and then choose from the hairstyles

2 folders under each new pack.   one is hair.  it contains the hairgroup.  apply this.   the stage has variations that can be applied after.

This is a user Forum and not a support area. The best place to get expert help is by contacting Reallusion Support directly, posting the issue in the Feedback Tracker as it is monitored by Reallusion staff.

I think you're wrong, Gerry. The Forum is the exact right place to ask this question.

I just noticed that you're responding to a post of more than two years ago. But Gerry has a point, regardless.

You can ask a question here, but if it is very specific and technical, you may not get an answer. This upsets some people. Or they may not like the answer and get angry. It happens...Unsure
