IK for Non-Human Characters?

Is there anywhere I can get some education on how to create and prepare a non-human character to use the IK function in the motion editor?
I made the simplest rig possible in Blender, just four bones in a chain, and an IK control bone.  The IK works just fine in Blender.  I exported as an FBX, imported into 3DXCHnage and converted to a non-human character.  I can rotate the bones in the motion layer editor in iClone just fine, but can't get IK to work at all.
