I'm trying to figure out an illusion trick, but I think my brain is just a little too worn out to figure it out at the moment. Ha!!

So I use images for my backgrounds. I got the shadow to point in the direction that suits me, but now it's being blocked by the image.
Is there a way to get the shadow to ignore the image? I want it to look the way it does in the second picture.

I'm also using the Toon Shader if that information helps.
I would really appreciate any help on this.

I can't say that I fully understand the issue because I see the shadow,  but from your description of how you want the shadow to be more clear..
These are Tools that come to mind for managing shadows -  the darkness fader on the lights make shadows darker
I don't know if the shadow catcher can be turned 90 degrees to act like a wall,  in case you wanted the shadow to bend on an angle.  you wouldn't see the shadow catcher,  but you'd see the shadow folding like an illusion on the shelf
Then using the image on a flat plane or billboard gives you more options and controls on how shadows reflect than just using the image as a background.

Those are tools I'd look at to manipulate shadows - aside from the custom shadows panel

I hope that helps

I'm trying to make the shadow go through the picture while still being visible. I think that's the best way I can explain it.
(Or I guess, I'm trying to mask the shadow through the image?)

It may not be possible, but I figured someone would have figured it out by now if it was. I don't think that it is, because there are two shadows forming from the same part of the body.

The shadow from the arm (behind the image layer) is from the same part of the arm that's creating the bending effect on the image layer.

Thanks to your advice, I opened the Shadow Catcher for the first time. I've been playing around with it. I still don't know how to use it lol. But i like learning by trial and error.

I want the image layer to ignore the shadow but not hide it. Excuse me. I'm trying to think of better ways to explain what I'm trying to achieve.

So, it is a plane with an image. Right? Select plane in scene manager and set Shadow to "No Shadows"

This helped. Actually, a combination of both of you guy's advice fixed my problem.
I took the shadows off of the Plane layer. Then, I rotated the Shadow Catcher upwards.

I'm still playing with the light to get my shadows right, but as you can see, the shadow is no longer bending.

THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH!!!

Very cool! That's kinda similar to what I showed a client who wanted to use a Google image of a street in her neighborhood for an scene. I roughed in an animation just to see if it would kinda work and it came close but the res was a bit too low...;)

Instead of moving the shadow catcher you can go under the lights and turn on the visibility of the floor shadow light.  Now you can rotate the light to adjust the shadow as needed.
