Hello All, My question is this: Is Adobe Animate the only way to create vector characters into CTA4? Because it's kinda frustrating to have great graphic and vector programs but only one or two can be used to accomplish the mission, and those are tied to subscriptions so that the customer never owns what they pay for. Please answer if you would be so kind.

Hi... In previous versions of Cartoon Animator (when it was called CrazyTalk Animator 2) you could use Adobe Flash or Drawplus to create G2 characters. Now in Cartoon Animator 4, with the latest G3 360 characters, we no longer use vectors and you can use PSD compatible software like Photoshop, Affinity Photo, Designer or even free software like Krita or Photopea to create your characters. Alternatively if you are using Cartoon Animator 4 Pro, or don't want to use 3rd party tools, you can simply import standard image formats like .PNG or JPG to create your characters inside CTA4.

It's not impossible to create Vector Characters for CA4 without Adobe apps but without the flash (and drawplus) character templates for G2 characters it does become a very long and complex process of sprite replacement. Much less difficult is creating and importing vector props for which I have a free video tutorial on my Lazy Animator Site: How to Import Vector Images into Reallusion's Cartoon Animator (without Adobe Flash) and Apply Render Styles

Hi Raven, You can download an open source software called Inkscape. You can export vector files to .png format to assemble a character in CTA4.

coolhewitt24 (12/26/2021) Hi Raven, You can download an open source software called Inkscape. You can export vector files to .png format to assemble a character in CTA4. I use Inkscape and an app called KVEC in my tutorial to import vector props into CA4. In theory you could also import character sprites as vectors too.

So far as I'm aware CTA retains the ability to drag and drop a vector .SWF to the stage, and then to save as a prop. The budget PhotoLine software can do vectors as well as raster graphics and saves .SWF files, or at least it could in 22.x - they've just released 23.0. But an old copy of DrawPlus X8 is probably the best option for vector prop/scene creation, and the G2 templates should work with it. These templates still show as available with my CTA 3 Pipeline purchsse. But unless you specifically want to work with G2s, then the best way is Photoshop and the latest and more advanced CTA figures.

If you do use Drawplus x8 be aware that only versions thru V14.0.0.19 will work. The last update V14.0.1.21 broke the SWF export for CTA/CA. Jeff
