** iClone Avatar Builder Suggestions Thread **

The iClone Avatar Builder has been available for a little while now and we would very much like to hear your views on this new service. All comments are welcome be they good or bad.

Some of the things we would like to know are what you like, what you dislike, what needs improving. Also if you haven't used the service yet then please tell us what is stopping you.

Anything you would like to share, we want to hear. Don't hold back now. Wink

I'm still trying to find out how exactly much an iClone Evolver character actually costs for the iClone version, without signing-up and going through the whole process until I hit the checkout. No use me trying it, if I'm going to be looking at a $80+ bill at the end of it. Especially if there's a variable cost depending on how many uber-l33t accessories I add?

To be honest, the cost per avatar stops me from using the service. Simply too expensive.

to be honest i find very little value to them for the price - the equivalent of $20 for a unique face - the bodies are inferior to what you get with clone cloth

to make it more valuable, have more unique body options - armor, costumes, helmets, extra limbs etc.

or reduce the price

or export individual parts

Ditto and double ditto on the price.

All arts is political, otherwise it would just be decoration. And all artists have something to say, otherwise they'd make shoes.

I have not had a chance to try it yet. I am not eager to try because the benefits of this service are not clear. I would like to have some clarifications on questions such as:

1) What can this service do that iClone can't? Give a few examples.

For instance, it seems that kids generated in iClone look like mini versions of adults. Kid girls have breasts and curves, and kid boys have chest muscles, strong looking shoulders, biceps, and calves. Does this service make it easier to model characters of different ages?

Does the service produce better looking characters? Higher resolution? Better skin texture?

2) Can existing iClone clothes, hairs, shoes, and accessories easily fit the generated character?

3) Can existing motions be easily applied to the generated characters?

DesertWalker, there's a very detailed page showing the differences between Evolver and iClone characters here:

http://www.reallusion.com/iclone/help/Evolver/index.htm

It answers some of your questions about tweaking body shape, textures (just use Photoshop to add texture detail to the single-piece Evolver texture, seems to be the answer).

For making characters of different ages, it seems the Natural Human Base pack might be the better option at $99. Better than Evolver? I'm not sure if you could get off-the-peg clothes, though.

A couple of years ago Iclone was my introduction to the world of 3d models and virtual movie making. I think at that time I would have found the simplicity of using Evolver a very useful option.

I have not currently been tempted to buy an expensive Evolver generated character. I have sampled the creation process. I too find it disappointing that the results are so very similar to those already achievable with some experience from within Iclone.

What I can't make is squidgy anthropomorphic cartoon object type avatars, design my own alien creature or even multi-limbed fantasy humanoids. I would happily support a commercial site with a step by step on-line "mix and match" construction process which helped me create such additional character types for export into Iclone.

At present a simplified Spore to Iclone pipeline seems a much more attractive option to extend the possibilities than Evolver. An optional 3DXC4 plug-in from RL to allow this would be most welcome.

Geoff.

With the price seemingly being the biggest hurdle right now what would everyone see as fair for the GEvolver models. For example at what price would you change your mind about obtaining new GEvolver avatars?

Your thoughts will be greatly appreciated. Smile

I am also trying to find the cost of the G evolver clone. I also like the cute kid freebie. Both seem to be hard to obtain. $40 wouldn't be a bad price for me. If there were a way to really clone it to make more it would be worth my saving up for. I would be more inclined to pay more if it were in the point system<img src="https://forum.reallusion.com/Skins/test/Images/EmotIcons/w00t.gif" width=20 height=20>
