Hi.

Anyone who knows if it's possible to sort all the content into our own folders inside iC7 we buy from the content store or market place?

Because when I buy something and install the content from the smart gallery, then I have no idea where it is... I have to look for ages to find all. Is there a better way to organize all the content I buy and download inside iC7?

Thanks!

Hi.
Is it possible to sort our contents into our own folders?

Here is a way I do it. As to whether you do it or not is something you need to consider for yourself.
Its something I did some time ago but I am changing how I did it before so it suits smart gallery because moving models away from where they get loaded to will make smart gallery think they need to be redownloaded again. I also like using smart galley so thats the biggest reason why I changed how I do this now.
I also like to have certain models in more than 1 folder because certain models can apply to many names of the folders I make.

Here is what I do. Like I said if this is something you want to do then you need to figure out a way that suits you.

1) I created a folder in my D drive and named it SortedModels
2) In SortModels I created some extra models called 0SortThese, SortedProps, SortedAvatars, SortedTextures....etc etc...Whatever is usefull for how I want it.
3) Then in SortModels  folder I right clicked on the SortedProps folder and clicked create shortcut. Then I did it also with SortedAvatars, SortedTextures ... etc etc.
4) Then I removed the SortedAvatarsShortcut and pasted it into the D:\Reallusion\Custom\iClone 7 Custom\Character folder. That way I can see what I put inside the folders I created in my SortedModels folder.
Did the same with the other shorcuts but put them into whichever folder in Reallusions folders that they are suitable with. But I all was put the in iClones Custom folders. Could put them into iClones Template folders. It really just depends on how you prefer it.
5) When I download a project I bought that gets downloaded into D:\Reallusion\Template\iClone 7 Template\wherever it gets loaded to I just leave them there now but I create shortcuts to all the models that got downloaded. Then I remove the shortcuts and poat them into my D:\SortModels\0SortThese folder. I do that because it doesn't take much time to do that.
6) Now when I feel like doing something on my computer but I don't feel like working on a movie or making some models I go to my D:\SortModels\0SortThese because they are shortcuts to the models that I havent sorted them how I want to sort them yet. I look at them and thick how I want to sort them.
7) Here is an example how I sort them. Ok working on 1 object and it is a Character so I need to put it into my SortedAvatars folder. But I don't want to just add all Characters in there. Hmmmm, this character is an Egyptian. So inside the SortedAvatars folder I create a new folder and name it Egyptians. Then I put all Egyptian characters into that folder and then rename that shortcut to suit however I want it named. Don't need to do any shortcut because everything I add into that SortedAvatars folder automatically shows up in iClone when I go to iClones Content.Custom.Avatar the shortcut I created to my SortedAvatars there shows up and everything I add into that folder automatically shows up in there.
8)Another point, I might duplicate a shorcut to a model several times and store them in several folders. That way I can find it im many places and its only a shortcut so it doesn't use up as much folder resources as it would if I duplicated the actual model many times.

Anyway, this is just a sugestian that suits me. You need to decide if it suits you or not.
Any questions on this I will try an help.....my heads getting old though LOL

By the way. In the past I posted a forum here that gives people the ability to download the programs I created that helps me to move my shortcuts and or rename them.
Gives me the ability to make a change to many things really quick. I only use them very little but they help me do lots of changes when I need to.
Might not be something you want but your welcome to them if you think they are helpful

@ Delarna

Hi and thank you for the solution and your answer.

I will take a more deep look and see if this could work for me:-)

Strange there is no option inside iClone 7 to make new folders and drag and drop the things you want inside new folders.

When you download or purchase content from the market place or content store I was hoping the things you downloaded automatically imported into iClone in a way that makes sense, but it doesn't. It's a guessing game where the content is and its time consuming to many times look for the content you have purchased. Yes, you can do a search but if you don't know what you are searching for then it's just a hassle. Sometimes the content you buy is put inside a folder with the Authors name, then you can find it easy, but sometimes it's not.

I wish I could directly make folders inside iClone, drag and drop them where I want them. This is possible with custom content so why not do the same with content you buy? It makes no sense to me at least.

You can move models you buy but you cant do it through iClone itself. You need to go into the folders where the models get saved through the computers File Explorer and then you can move things however you want and they will still show up in iClone providing you create folders in the iClones proper folders. I leave the models where they get saved and just create shortcuts of them and move those around instead.
Reasons I do that is
I can rename the shortcuts to whatever I want. That also makes it easy for me to know where the actual models came from because they are kept where they got loaded and the name stays as it was.
I can duplicate the shortcuts as many times as I need so I can have in as many folders that they apply to. Makes it easier to find things for me
Moving the models themselves is fine but can cause some problems, especially with the new Smart Gallery. If you don't care about that then moving the models themselves is fine.

As I said though they do need to follow certain specific folders but you can create your own folders inside them.
I just highly prefer to do it with shortcuts. You need to find the way that suits yourself most of all.

If you dont know what I mean then here is an image shoing where mine are.
Mind you, like I said I prefer not to move the actual models anymore but its just a matter of choice I think.

One reason NOT to move the original item is that if there is ever an update to that item and you re-install the item, it will install in the original location, not the location you have moved it to.
Then you have to move the updated files to your new location. Now that is not a big problem, if you remember to move the file, but using a shortcut leaves the item in it's original location and you don't have to worry about moving files around.

Of course, for your CUSTOM items you can create any folder structure you want from within iClone.

I see.

Strange that content you buy from content store or market place is not placed more logically e.g to the Authors name or something, then it would be easier to find the content. Mabe some other solutions as well, but the way it is now, its time consuming to really find anything you buy and where it is.

Thanks for your insights, I appreciate it:-)

Some of that is how the author sets up the installation directories when creating the package.
