Anyone here tried Glycon for motion capture? I thought it looked interesting, will give the trial a go, but as you can’t save the file in the trial version may be hard to test for iclone and share for evaluation. So be good to hear from someone who has used it with iclone. Cheers, Tony

I haven't used it in a couple of months but it worked fine for the motions I needed, mainly from the waist up for my workflow. Very easy to use to. The developer is Chilton Webb, you can find him on Facebook if you have any further questions. Sometimes the editors change the headlines to articles and this one was a bit confusing.

I have also used Glycon. I used it with an old Win mixed reality headset and controllers. But he has a Oculus Quest version available now, and has just got the camera finger tracking working. I don't have a Quest, so have not tried that yet. But it is tempting!
The capture is very good, and super stable. Like amazingly so! If you only have a headset and controllers, it interpolates lower body movements. But it can also support full body sensors for total freedom of motion. That requires base stations and additional sensors, of course. But you can actually adjust the IK settings to control how the lower body will move with you.
I think the headset only option is pretty much locked to facing forward, but he may be working on a solution for that. It's in very active developement. He's a great guy too. Used to be a Lightwave dev.

Currently the HTC Vive (which is what the software author recommends for this) is around $900. That gives you the base unit, plus two hand holds. You can then add more if you want feet/elbows (without them you will only have upper body motion and the arms won't be very accurate, although they can be "acceptable"). So for a total body solution you're talking somewhere around $1300 (which isn't all that cheaper than a PN suit). I've had this and while I used other software I'll tell you folks it isn't NEARLY as nice as a PN suit (for one thing walking is not going to be accurate no matter what you do). If you already have the VR stuff spending $99 for the software is a no-brainer, but spending the money for the hardware to me is pretty silly (I ended up returning the hardware and getting my money back).

I own the Vive so for me it was an appealing way to consider getting into motion capture, but I agree with Mike, if you don’t already own a compatible VR setup it’s not cheap to get into. On top of the basic headset and controllers, the Vive trackers are $99 each so it all starts to add up and they seem to be forever short on supply. Glycon does claim to work with Oculus Quest which I assume is cheaper than Vive. I guess the value depends on how much use you put the equipment to. cheers, Tony
