I have a character that has an imported Gown mesh (obj from Maya). It has been added to the rig and skinned via transfer weights. In CC3 the normals are displaying correctly, but when exported and added to Unity, the Gown seems to still have hard normals..... Back in CC3 I went to Edit Normals and auto smoothed, and re-exported to Unity to no avail.

Here is a view from inside CC3 - Normals softened and showing correctly

Here is a view from inside Unity - The issue with the normals are visible on the gown mesh

Not sure why but it seems that I cant get the Edit Normals to apply to the mesh on export.
Is there a known issue ? Is there a method to get this working properly ?

Thanks in advance, Chase C

Thanks vidi ,

I had tried those setting in Unity to set the normal method to import but it still isnt displaying correctly. I also took the same fbx file into Maya, which is seems to display them correctly. So it must be something on how Unity is reading (or not reading) the normals....... Although I dont need to lower the poly count of the object, I went ahead and used insta LOD and Poly Reduce on it, export another fbx and that seemed to work just fine in Unity.

Not sure what is causing the error with the original mesh in Unity.

I will continue to try and figure out why this might be happening.  If anyone comes across a similar issue or fix please let me know.

Hi I do not use Unity but thought you could check out something with your mesh in Maya. I use an old version of 3ds Max and sometimes when certain polys are in a different smoothing group they show up like your image. So perhaps highlight those odd few and see if they are in the same group as all others.
