The easiest method to create a displacement map is to convert the diffuse map into a greyscale image and tweak the contrast and brightness. Like bump maps but less detailed. I would also recommend awesome bump it is freeware and it can create any map you want based on any image you give it, kinda like bitmap2material which is included in the substance supertools.
Tesselation is a little bit tricky since it needs two things to work properly with grayscale displacement maps: a decent uv map unlike the uv maps sketchup autogenerates, and some decent polycount.
Also there are the vector displacement maps which look like normal maps, and are intended to be used on low poly objects to create a lot of detail using tesselation but i dont remember how to create them, i guess you can bake them in zbrush somehow

I would be interested to know if anyone ever created Vector Displacement Maps from zbrush like HD detailed Maps in DAZ and How? For what is this feature when nobody know how to create ? There are so many possibles with VD, and iclone can make it happen, but without concrete information it is not possible for me . Anyway, I can not get on

BTW from this guide There are 48 possible combinations of export settings located in the Import Export Preferences, such as NormalMapFlipX or NormalMapFlipYZ that's like guesswork :hehe:
