Let's say I would like to derive my custom content from this item:
https://marketplace.reallusion.com/business-suit_base

I want to adjust the base design for two buttons. It shouldn't be that difficult to do, right? But what if I want to sell my derivative work on the Marketplace? What would be the steps to modify the base both mesh and textures and still be DRM compatible with the base item?

It's really difficult to find realistic looking suits with enough wrinkles and tiny details. Even DAZ content store has no options for a classic regular fit (not slim) style suit with two buttons and working well for different poses. The iClone suit base was the closest I could get (maybe it was created in Marvelous Designer with its amazing cloth simulation tools).
