@Rampa - I did (have been) following your tutorial. :)
● I created the 'starting' pose with the 'Right Leg' and 'Left Hand' both 1 rung higher that their opposite limbs.
● Translated that pose vertically to frame 80 - with the 'Auto-Extend' filling in the motion bar on the time-line.
● Placed cursor 1/2 way along the cycle (frame 40), & swapped the legs so the 'Left' was now 1 frame higher than the 'Right'. Swapped the hands too.
● Then was starting to work on the 25% point, trying to 'lock down' with Reach Targets to prevent those unwanted 'dips' you mentioned.
(so that's where I'm currently at).

Ahhhhh ...... just realized my mistake! (well one of them) ...... that left leg should be higher up - ie: at frame 40 it should've risen 2 rungs not 1. And because of that - it's like you just said - the joints are being pulled beyond what they can normally travel to. It's physically impossible for the avatar to  continue. So I'll now get that left leg 1 frame higher for frame 40 - then I'll see whether I can get it all moving properly - though I'm still unclear about locking down the limbs with these Reach Dummies - something hasn't quite 'fused' in my brain about that yet .....

Please be patient with me ..... I don't always 'get it' the first time 'round - not even the 2nd time! :(  - yikes! ...

In this case, it looks like you have moved the character further than the legs can still reach the targets. It looks like the legs are straight and the character was moved a bit further.

The trick is to not move the joints beyond what could normally be reached. So once the leg is straight, the pelvis cannot move up any more untill the foot is also moved. So the first step worked great, and the it just needs to repeat with left and right reversed.

Before making the tutorial, I did try building the motion completely sequentially as well. I found the results were the same as doing it the way I did, setting the two end positions and then the middle position. So I thought the latter ( :) ) was a bit easier.

Greetings ....
I'm still working on creating a successful 'Climbing Motion' - built from the ground up.
So far:

* A great tutorial from Rampa outlines the approach link: https://youtu.be/WtH71Slifok
* I decided that the 'Curve Editor would be useful - so purchased and installed that today.
* The video below, is the start of an 80 frame climb cycle - the 'left foot rises first, coming to rest one rung higher at the 1/2 way point (frame 40).
* But - it's what follows AFTER frame 40 - that's puzzling me. I can't understand what happens with the left foot 'Reach Dummy' - I used the Dummy to successfully animate the leg around behind the rung as it rises from the starting rung. But then I'm wanting it to 'lock' to the rung. It just won't - instead it just rises up, leaving the Dummy behind. I'm sure it's operator error - but I've tried so many things - Try as I might, there's part of this 'concept' i'm just not understanding ... Can anyone see where I'm going wrong? Thanks :)
