was working on iclone last night when bam screen goes black. Rebooted - i can hear the HDD working, but on my monitor it says "No Video Input" - i hear the windows chime turn on, my keyboard caps lock can be toggled but no display - rebooting did not work, same as above

now i had a similar encounter before with win 7- but fixed that through a graphics driver upgrade
but at that time i was able to intercept the post to get into safe boot not this time

i've reseated ram, components, tried video card on another pc - worked - tried monitor with another pc - worked
disconnected all power except for boot drive, video and normal motherboard connectors

reset cmos, remove battery,

same effect- i know it is booting, ram test with mobo elicits the right number of beeps
scoured the web for answers, it turns out this seems to be a common problem but no common solution -
only thing i haven't tried is replacing ram

so posting it here in case some of ya might have an idea or two to check out

loose crimps on wires can make a computer fail. there is a wire in my mobo that looks seated properly, but if you position the wire the wrong way, it will prevent my pc from booting but the lights come on, it plays dead lol. I thought i fried my pc during a power supply change, i kept moving the wires around till it finally booted. Maybe i didn't need a new power supply after all !

I doubt it would be drivers or anything on your hard drive, because i think your bios can give you a visual without a hard drive. is there a chance your bios got corrupted with an update ?

maybe the pcie video slot got fried ? i once fried a pc with a static shock during a ram upgrade. I thought it was a myth till that day, i didn't even see a spark!! I think it's possible to burn out 1 slot without trashing the mother board, ie - if card had a short or got overheated without warning you, or dust will do it too because dust is a conductor, learned that the hard way too with a pc i had in storage.

Have you tried replacing the Monitor Cable? Did you use the same cable when you tried on another pC.

From the result of your testing, this is definitely HW Cable issue, Graphics Card RAM issue or Virus.

If you have an on-board VGA connector, I suggest to remove Graphics card, connect monitor and monitor cable directly on Motherboard VGA connector to test cable and monitor.  Reboot.. Does this work?

 P.S. Removing Battery and resetting BIOS was not a good move.. You could be in a position whereby your BIOS options are wrong. You need to check that too.

monitor and cable and video card tested ok in another pc - monitor in both VGA and DVI mode checked out ok as well

some folks in other forums suggested a faulty or under powered power supply - next on my list to check

Power Sup... Hum, yeah, good idea. They have several independant control circuits and the one used for you Graphics Card may have turned weak or fried (the one powering the additional 12 V High current connector on your Graphics card).

Since your graphics card work inside another PC, this is a good possibility but bare in mind that you could have burned a trace on your motherboard as well in which case the Motherboard would need to be replaced...

Check that all your fans actually turn on the PSU and on the motherbaord. This could indicate that the original problem was overheating.

ok the most unlikely culprit caused all the problems

i found on another forum that this problem can be due to the cmos battery being bad - many other people scoffed at this but i figure cheap enough to try - so off i went and bought a $0.75 cent battery and head ache solved!

That certainly wouldn't be an obvious thing to check with a problem like that. Well done for solving that one Gabe. No matter how many years experience with computers, you never stop learning that's for sure.
