Hi was looking at buying some Truebones Mocaps. Are they any good for Iclone, it's say there are compatible. Just wondering if anybody has used them and what they thought. Good purchase or stay clear?

I suggest you read through this thread, which discusses Truebones and customer satisfaction.

My suggestion is that you buy motions only from Reallusion or other certified iClone established sellers only.  Buying BVH files and trying to convert into iClone is a big headache and does not always work as expected.

I bought the whole collection from Truebones...and at first I thought it was a waste, but a friend of mine came up with a profile for motion converter and they all work. Some are better than others, but I'm referring to speed. Technically you can just speed it up or slow it down if you are using another video editing software. Well worth the money.

hmm just 2 posts from this user and both of those posts are in support of trubones thread

fishy smell - but a benefit of the doubt for you - share the profile or show video of iclone motions
coz if true, this could be a good value

I got the free samples from the site and they didn't work for me. The motion came out all deformed. Saying that I'm not very experienced with BVH and I may have been missing something with ICLONE's BVH convertor. The convertor either crashed or if it worked the motion was awful.

I've been downloading the free motion files from Trailerspark. They may not be perfect but I suppose with some careful camera angles and tweaking they'll come in useful. If Truebones were high quality VNS without having to do lots of work on them I would willingly pay.

The truebones collection has a nice variety of motions, but as I've mentioned before they are not all from one source , I worked with Joe for a while and from my own experience his collection is from a variety of sources so they are not one structure...so there is no one profile that will do it. .....I have managed to convert 97 percent of his motions myself, I had to use different approaches from modifying the main profile to using a variety of other software.... and even then Joe had to go back and reformat some of the moves to be more compatible.

The truth is, with the mistakes and all, you are just not going to find another collection of so many bvh's in one package, but the sacrifice is what you don't spend in money, you will spend in time tweaking and converting.

I actually paid more for my package and I don't regret my purchase despite all the challenges and work I went through. Joe is actually a very nice person and was very cool with me while we worked together. So i really have nothing bad to say about him and his product. It's just an unfortunate set of incidents that prevented me from becoming an iclone motion dealer myself.

The collection is hot, but it is not for the novice animator because of the working knowledge needed to convert these motions , which Joe coached me through.

It does bother me that Joe gets a bad rap here, I worked with Joe as he went out of his way to make the motions more compatible for iclone. Originally most of his customers are from maya / cinema 4D and 3DS Max, so they don't have our problems.

My own personal beef is that I along with Joe went out of our way to make the motions more compatible for iclone ...only to be confronted with a lot of negativity as a result I've gotten my share of emails and bad raps that had nothing at all to do with me, and further made me feel like I wasted my time trying to help. Now I know that many of the Ibone collection are not done, but thats also because I stopped working on the project to move on to other projects unrelated to animation.

Joe has my blessings and I have nothing against him making money to eat for his hard work and efforts. Thank you joe for all your help, despite all the negativity you face, you still hang in there and bring us even more great motions. Your work is appreciated, at least by me.

IC Warehouse has over 600 iClone imotion files converted from Mocapdata.com freebies. The site is well worth a visit.

there's a lot of great spots to get some nice bvh's, but after a while many of them look the same..... punch, kick....run ..it's personally why I went truebones before completing the cmu collection....true bones has game developer moves.. You could probably do a search online for all the free iclone motions available..
