I hope they make an effort to price it appropriately for the Steam community.

Yes, that´s exactly what I thought while reading this post. Would be a perfect match to the upcoming CC 1.5 release. ;)

It sure would!
I've been doing some crude cloth sewing with Blender, but MD would be great. It is so fast with its physics, and can can be "grabbed".

Okay, excuse an old man (who's definitely NOT a gamer) but why would MD for Steam be anything any of us here would get excited about? Given that MD now works with Windows (which iClone does) I assume the only reason anyone cares at all about it being available for Steam is price, as Rampa alludes to. But don't you think that the exportable assets are ONLY going to be available for Steam? Why in the world would the folks at MD shoot themselves in the foot and essentially cripple their own sales by releasing any version that created things that could be used by their Windows version? The Windows version isn't "program specific" -- it creates OBJs which can then be brought in to whatever. I don't see any possible way any Steam version of this will benefit us. But perhaps I'm missing something obvous and would appreciate edification.

It's their way to get a new customer base. It may be an Indie version with some limitations. I believe Modo does the same. EDIT: Also, output from Steam-released products is not necessarily limited to Steam.

BTW, I'm not a gamer either, but as a (former) Dutchman I like a good deal.

modo indie is limited, but in a way that's almost irrelevant to iclone - the 100k poly export is the biggest limitation - but for real time, you want to stay under 100k poly anyways - also their scripts and plug ins are limited - but for the most part, most of those scripts are novelties more than necessities - I just recently discovered that modo 10 indie has realflow particles :w00t: so I'm looking forward to learning it to have the upcoming alembic format interact with it! Hopefully MD will take the same approach, limiting features that would only be appealing to hollywood standard / hard core type fashion industry type users ... Sony movie studio is the same way- it has all the toyz you need to make great videos that vegas does, but vegas adds features that are appealing to tv / hollywood standards.

Steam is really just a distribution channel. There are actually a good number of 3d programs sold on it. Almost all are Windows only. Here is a list of 3D and related apps available. http://store.steampowered.com/tag/en/Animation%20%26%20Modeling/#p=0&tab=NewReleases

ya but be careful, steam can be a bit extreme in their EULA - and while it's not likely to happen, they have the power to shut you down from your software, for reasons you may not agree with. so on one hand, i like it because of it's portability and prices - on the other hand I don't like giving any one company the power to be a tyrant and shut my business down because they can. So i'll buy on steam when the deals are ridiculously low, otherwise, i try to get the program at sellers site. Our Beloved Gabe has been known to have troll features in his dna :p
