I can see the DOF working in the preview window. But, when I render the scene the DOF function does not work. The backround is not blurring like it was in the preview. Everything in the scene is in focus. Does anyone know about this problem or how to fix it?
Thanks, Craig

It's an issue that has been raised before. No good solution that I'm aware of. (Maybe there is, but I don't think so.) Here is one place where it was talked about fairly recently... https://forum.reallusion.com/FindPost276592.aspx

You have an option in the render output to export either "Preview" or "Final". Try exporting as "Preview".

Yes, the DOF doesnt work correctly in the preview window, but the final render is always how you did set up the camera. No worries here ...

I still find, on my system, that "Targeting" with DOF is off and I can't seem to get the Target of my focus..in focus even if I manually tweak the focus point. It's very close, mind you, but if I render with and without DOF my target subject is sharper without DOF. Increasing the focus "Rage" does help, a bit, to bring the "Target" in focus but that defeats, somewhat, the purpose of DOF. Maybe it's just my system of course. ;)

thedirector1974 (4/22/2016) Yes, the DOF doesnt work correctly in the preview window, but the final render is always how you did set up the camera. No worries here ...What are you doing that I am not? I just used the basic approach of: a) Turn DOF on, b) Set my focal point/distance, and c) Adjust the range. Doing that, I could see very distinct changes in the preview window. But when rendering I would get extremely little DOF effect. So what "set up the camera" step am I missing? Lastly, whether it is preview or final render that is wrong, when they are drastically different it gets hard to compose the effect you want. From my limited experience, it looks to me like Preview behaves okay, and Final Render is badly broken.

Thanks for the suggestion about using the preview window. It still doesn't seems to work properly. Guess we will have to wait for RL to fix it.

I have to admit that I was wrong. Something is broken about the DOF. I never realized this during production, cause I was working on night scenes with low light. But today I did a little shot in bright daylight and I realized the problem. Really bad. There is DOF but you can't manipulate the strength anymore ... :(:(
There is always something ...

I just checked the feedback tracker and someone suggested to switch off supersampling. I did and it worked. DOF works much better this way. Question is, was it always like this? I don't think so. I used Supersampling all the time and I think it worked in the past ...
Switching off supersampling is not a big deal. Image quality is the same despite of some decrease of antialiasing ...

@Direx, Thanks for taking a second look, and thanks for passing along the "supersampling" tip. I hate having to make choices like that, but until it gets properly fixed, if I need DOF I'd be willing to trade supersampling. I also have the option to render at a higher resolution, and "compress" it back down to 1920x1080 in my video editor, which might be nearly the same as having supersampling On.
