Hi All, I really like what I'm seeing with iClone6 and Character Creator so far. After working in iClone5 for so long, the improvements are readily evident. I seem to have hit a roadblock with hair, though. I've been poking around all the menus of both IC6 & CC and I've only been able to find one male hairstyle -- and no way to adjust its length or to turn off the sideburns, etc. Can this be right? If so, does anyone know of any tutorials for making/adjusting hair similar to the way we can make/alter clothes, etc, by playing with the material settings? A character's hairstyle is super-important and I can't imagine being so limited here. Am I missing something? Any ideas, help, info appreciated. Peace, Bud

They sell more hairstyles (see Content store) but for now the only adjustments you can make with hair come through the use of maps, such as opacity and possibly the displacement and bump maps (use opacity to "trim" hair and the other maps to push it up and out -- you'll have to play with this some).

Thank you, Kelley,
I did "discover" the content store yesterday. The biggest hair-pack that I found only had 5 male hairstyles and none of them were close to what I wanted.
However, I'm going to try playing with the hair opacity maps tonight and see how far I get.
I also "discovered" last night that I can put iC5 hair on iC6 characters, so that opened things up some.
Thank you for the tip, Bud

More hair options and even a Hair Creator are long-standing requests. I would like something with morphs, such as DAZ Hampton hair (which is for female hair only, I think) and something similar for male hair.

Yeah, there seems to be an overwhelming trend toward female hair. I spent some time tonight trying to figure out how the whole hair thing works in iClone. I found I can delete all the textures -- diffuse, opacity, bump and the hair only loses detail but is otherwise the same as far as size & shape go.
A hair-creator would be great!

Deleting opacity maps won't change the hair -- you need to mask out what you don't want in the opacity map for it to make a difference. Here's what I did with Mason's hair (admittedly I'm no barber): 76% of original size (was 661x19) - Click to enlarge 76% of original size (was 661x19) - Click to enlarge

Ah, good work! And good to know.
I think my issue was that I was trying to make the hair longer. So I deleted the opacity map to see what the longest possible would be.
Good to know I can at least give my character a different haircut.
Thank you for the tip, Bud

You could use one of the women's styles to give him longer hair. As you've found out, you can use iC5 hair on an iC6 figure. The only real reason, IMHO, to use the new hair is if you want hair physics on it (and in my ignorance I don't even know if the IC5 hair can have hair physics as well -- never tried). There's no real easy way even to trim the hair (it isn't straightforward in any way) but you can play around with it a bit. Here's Mason with Heidi's long hair trimmed a bit (took about two minutes so not the greatest -- then again, I'm no barber): 76% of original size (was 661x19) - Click to enlarge

Hair can also be made up of many pieces. It needn't be a single model. I know Will Veeke has done some modular hair building stuff.
