kmiteff_20091227013941124 (8/21/2015) Hi, Dragonskunk:
I keep as many files as possible on separate drives and arrays, but iClone is one of those packages that seems to want to keep content in the User folders. I notice when you install iClone 6 it give you a option to pick another media path for your content. Does this work? Or does it introduce more problems than it is worth? Ultimately, I would like to do the same thing for my Daz3D/Poser libraries. DAZ 3D is an absolute mess... Everything works fine on my end all is in the D: drive. I think it glitched on first use of iClone that all folders appeared empty then restarted and all is visible and good since.

I have a disk image of Windows 7 if it gets too annoying for me I'll just wipe 10 and go back to 7. I always keep all my project files on another drive. For contrast here are my personal improvements I discovered with Win10: No more taking exactly 1 minute to identify a network before connecting to the internet. No more waking all sleeping drives before I can use 3DX. Fast load of the OS, then again it is always faster when the OS is a fresh install but still a bit faster. Better size and spacing of the taskbar icons mean no need for a fat 2 row of icons to see them all. I kept getting BSOD when using iClone hasn't heppen yet. Peter said no one else is complaining about BSOD so it may have been the driver for my GTX 780ti.

I have just installed windows 10 on my windows tablet, it took me 2 goes to get it to install ok. All works fine, it took a few days to settle in and work smoothly , don't know why but one thing stands out as needing work, the GFX drivers often crash and sometimes is slow at re drawing the screen. I am using it on a Microsoft device and it has these issues, so my guess is the GFX drivers might by the issue. If they are you can expect updates to fix them shortly. --------- I hope windows 10 does not go he way of Adobe, having to subscribe and pay a monthly fee unless it is for features I can either live without of find in other places. £10 a year for the new edge browser and Ill make Firefox my browser but that would mean the new AI Siri would be will not work at her best. In the end it may well prove a blessing for OS like Linux, if we find ourself trapped by microsofts plans .

there are some possible options, such as virtualizing the apps, but you are right, it may be more trouble than it's worth. I'm still going to do the mirror drive approach though, this way i can keep my current windows 7 drive in tact - from what i understand ....you have to upgrade first to get windows 10 registered, so you can do a true clean install. you can make a boot up usb or cd, but it has to be registered to your machine first. Thanks microsoft :pinch:

planetstardragon (8/3/2015) - but might be possible to migrate the entire program too. Not sure how you would migrate a program. Data yes, but a program ... Each program can install various files (dll's and com servers) in various parts of the system and usually need to register those files, as well as various classes and program info, in the registry. That whole process is done during the install. There can also be conditional branches in an install (depending upon the CPU type (Intel vs AMD), OS, graphics card, etc.) that are taken to install different support files for the hardware found in the system. Trying to track down and migrate all the files and registry entries would be more work than just re-installing the program. I have only two (old) programs, that I can think of, that I can migrate by just copying their directory over to a new computer. It works only because they are simple programs and do not use the registry and any support files are in the same directory. They are the exception. Most modern programs use the registry and various support files. Jeff

Just think, now with Windows 10, the military can do the ultimate botnet to Ddos the rest of the world on demand! :w00t:why do I get the feeling eventually operating systems will be created and controlled by local governments ? :ermm: you have to admit, microsoft is getting quite Orwellian...err ..aggressive with their approach to windows 10!

a plan i was considering, was to get another drive ( an ssd hybrid ) - then mirror my current drive. Once windows 10 is registered, do a fresh install - then migrate from the original drive. I was thinking of just migrating the data and reinstalling - but might be possible to migrate the entire program too.

Cellygon (8/2/2015) I just installed Windows 10 yesterday and do not have this problem... But maybe it's helpful to know that I did a fresh install rather than a simple upgrade. I did do a simple upgrade and ran into issues and bugs and glitches. So I decided to just wipe my drive clean and do a fresh install and everything is working fine now. Now I'm just trying to get all my files and other applications back.Yes, I prefer a clean install myself but it becomes a problem when you have many many applications to reinstall. I typically upgrade/replace my computer every three years and just did so last year. I'm not looking forward to reinstalling everything AGAIN so soon and "hope" that all the programs work on Win 10. It takes me typically a week to reinstall all my programs on a new computer and get them configured the way I want them. It's rare that an OS upgrade fully works for all applications and I gave up on them many years ago. Only clean installs for me. I also wait about a year to install any new OS so the biggest bugs are worked out. I'm still running Win 7 Pro and am happy with it. I have one test computer with Win 8 but that's it. I can wait for Win 10 until the initial dust settles and I see an advantage to install it (or am forced to). Jeff
