Is there a tutorial how to set up dynamic hair in Iclone? Someone made this in Iclone and the hair is pretty good. Are the secondary animation on the hair created with bones set to dynamic items in Iclone? I've quickly browsed through youtube but haven't found one yet RL https://www.youtube.com/user/Reallusion/playlists?sort=dd&view=1 Warlord https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCqdF5QY5uhI8lPWrP8rwh8A

with softcloth - the concept is very simple - i'll try and explain it in a paragraph, from your other posts you sound experienced, so this may work ( for now till a video is made ) attach hair prop to avatar. enable your avatar to do collision. ( button on the panel, you enable the bones ) - Then enable the hair prop to be soft cloth enabled. From there it will ask you for a weight map - now with weight maps, if you pulled your model into sculptris and manually painted a texture - everything you paint black isn't affected by the soft cloth physics, everything white is max - everything in between are shades of gray. The very top of your avatars head would be black, then just below the temples, would start fading to a lighter gray. In the panel itself, there are a bunch of presets for hair - wavy, curly, long etc ....select the most appropriate one for the hair style you are using, and it will auto tweak the settings below those options. - basically on the weightmap, you can use the black color strategically to pin your prop. there are other ways to achieve this with bones and springs as well, but the above technique is the latest one trending.

Thanks planetstardragon. Surpising its hard to find a video that deals specifically with hair dynamics. I've been reading through the forumand just wanted to put these useful infos in this thread also for my reference. https://forum.reallusion.com/Topic178297-281-1.aspx?Highlight=hair Looks like 3dmax selection sets are directly supported. I hope 3dxchange supports lightwave or modo selection sets because its a weekend and I only have lightwave and modo at home. Its mentioned only pipeline version supports custom rigs and pinning but will verify if pro works. Note: The weightmaps in Iclone seem to be black and white image not actual vertex weightmaps. https://forum.reallusion.com/Topic182678-281-1.aspx?Highlight=hair Spring dynamics for bones tutorial at the buttom. Useful for polygona hair. Some more useful info https://forum.reallusion.com/Topic189321-297-1.aspx?Highlight=hair https://forum.reallusion.com/Topic178025-281-1.aspx?Highlight=hair

oh, one more thing, if you don't see a collision option available for your character, you have to change the project from bullet to physx to enable it.

iClone 6 has switched to PhysX, whereas iClone 5 was Bullet for physics. The Bullet physics engine makes use of selection sets. The PhysX engine uses grayscale maps.
3DXchange Pro is all you need for rigged character import. Pipeline is only needed for rigged character export.
Softcloth clothing is better off starting out rigged to the skeleton, but hair need only have the proper grayscale map and be attached to the characters head. Simple clothing, like a skirt, also neednt be rigged. It can just be mapped black at the top and attached to the character's hips.

Thanks guys. So I should completely ignore the bullet physics videos on this page. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL97F333A0D34E90FD I assume there's no hair plugin for iclone and everyone uses polyhair on those hair video I posted in vimeo? No sasquatch, ornatrix plugin in iclone. Hmm...accessories and props in iclone. New concept for me. https://forum.reallusion.com/Topic158944-297-1.aspx?Highlight=hair http://www.reallusion.com/iclone/help/3DXchange5/Pro/03_Pipelines/Adding_Spring_Effects_to_Props.htm http://www.reallusion.com/iclone/help/iclone5/PRO/11_Props/Flex/Flexible_Props.htm What is the difference when people mention hair accessory and prop items? Dynamic hair is prop or accessory?

Some more research Two very useful tutorials applicable for hair. The hair is parented to the character as seen in the scene graph, and painted a weightmap with black at the root of the hair to hold it in place similar to a selection set. Picking the character we can see under modify, the collision shape editor that makes dummy collision objects to interact with the dynamic hair or cloth. No option for convex hull though.

Thanks for starting this tread hattori. Thanks too, for the last set of links. It can be tough to search for information on the forum here. A lot of times you get results, but only for iClone4 or 5. I guess with iClone6 just being out, there will be a lot of tutorials yet to come.

No problem! Its good to have documentation collected for newbies like myself to reference while learning a new app. Trick I learned dealing with multi app pipeline is to always keep references. Here's another one related to basic hair creation with 3dmax. Its applicable to any app like lightwave, modo, etc. Fundamentals are the same. https://forum.reallusion.com/Topic23451-14-1.aspx
