I've been doing 3D professionally for..well since `87
WOW! Really?
• Yet you've never (Repurposed a single Rig)?:w00t:
• Nor Retargeted Animaion.:w00t:
What did you do in 3D... PROFESSIONALLY... since '87? :ermm:
• Model?Yeah, sorry, guess I should have posted a few newbie to the forum self specs/facts, so I wouldn't come off like some stupid idgitt pretending to know 3D like so many people have done over the decades.
I DO have out tehre several tuts and I think nearly all of them, other then the Vue tuts, have something to do with animation, BUT!, almost every single animation trick I have posted over the years, they are all or mostly all my own tricks that other people later took as their own, which was fine with me, as I am giving away everythign on my site right now anyway and will post all the rest of the off line tutorials I never posted, as they were for showing other personal artist I knew of when or if they would get stuck on something and didn't have the time to learn yadda yadda.
I had a normal job back in the late `80s early `90s.
Rear ended by a moron fone truck.
For several years, I was able to work pro until I couldn't keep up anymore, but!, I still have been used since then, around early 2000s, animators who would come across my FREE online tutorials, some on my site, lots I've given away over the years and can't even remember where a lot of them are. I did the IvyGen tutorial.
Anyway, some of the artist who may have been on a tight schedual would ask if I could help them with the more techincal things, and that really is where I ended up, as it fits my now worsened dissabilly.
That was why it erked me that I didn't find a solution so quickly Hahaha
Kinda thought I was at least a bit better then that, right Hehe
Does that help?
I'm getting in music more now too, but am now wanting to advance my modeling skills over to the bone rigging area of things.

Anyway, I still can't seem to figure out ANY "normal or BASIC/SIMPLE way" to take a perfectly good bone rig, one that already has some basic motions such as (duh) walk and a few others, and put them in an object that is very close to the same type of object that I want the bones from, i.e. quad legged to another quad legged character.
Ever heardof Re-Targeting Animation?
• Simply apply motion from OneSkeleton to another.
• No Skining
• Retarget the animation from one character to another.Yeah, sadly, I really never, until like I say, more recently, ever could totally understand a lot of that stuff, and I think a lot of them things were, some people use other words I grew up on programs never hearing, so, one person's Bevel, is another person's Loft LOL
But yeah, I can do all that changing of the bones, IN LW ONLY and ok, they start to sort of work, but never ever right and more then that, so what for me since I never to this date have been ever able to figure out, how do other people always manage to use all those moption preset formats out there, if first, you can't even SEE the actual bone rig in the first place and two, that means I can't set up MY bones to with with all them BVH format prests, which we all have, or I do, trillions of Hehe
Hey, I'm trying :D

But seriously, except for the Max program, I only have a pretty old version and haven't upgraded since my animation times have changed a lot over the years. No point. No Point? OLD Max 8 would do everything you asked![/quote]
No I meant, since I never used it, as my other animators I always work with all mostly use LW.
No point in spending more zillions on more 3D programs unless I can get money back from it.
And now, obviously after reading your great info bellow, I now have an even more enthused drive to get things working, so gras.
• Use your OLD version of Max to "Rig, Skin and Model"
Oh!, wow!, For reals!???
OK, like I mentioned, I was able to load it all in there, it's currently there right now in fact, as I slowly tried to go through any tools and other things that might let me have a slightly bit more of a clue about what to do and and so on?
But, now that it sounds like you are for sure confirming this all can be done right in that app, then I will get on uTube and see IF I can find any tuts on this "exact" subject?
• ANIMATE IN ICLONE!

So, what you mentioned about the Skinning/Mesh stuff, yeah, I already knew about that part, and to be honest DID NOT like that whole sceme of things and actually felt like that is almost a slap to anyone that wants to do 3D, meaning, sheesh, I am forced into using the same vertex count!!!!!????Please Re-Read it again.
YOU ARE NOT FORCED TO USE THE SAME VERTEX COUNT. A Clone mesh uses the same vertex count and order.
You are NOT using Cloned meshes, so why would you think you're FORCED to use the same ANYTHING?
Umm, I thought that was what they said, either it was in a written thing, or maybe I thought I seen it in a vid tut?
Hey, I'm human, I could of easily missed it some how LOL
Been at this a lot recently, and I can only sit here for a while at a time.
I'm still good, just the ole body is not keeping up Hehe
............md :)
