Thanks Vidi- Leaving teh anim FBXs set to "Generic" after importing to Unity was the solution.

Yippee!

Thanks Vidi-

After trying this with both the G3 Dylan the G5 Chuck base characters... the problem begins when changing the rig to "humanoid" in Unity after importing. from that point, the facial expressions and eyes do not animate- just the mouth and body. If I preview the character animation in the inspector while it's still set to "generic" rig, the facial animation plays fine.

I'm stuck at this point.

'humanoid'
that is the Mecanim bone retargeting mode.
That means it converted the bones in your mesh to a Unity humanoid Bones setup

in this mode can exchange the animation different avatars with each other,

In these mode the head bone are limited (look in the head tab, you will see only jaw and eye bone
but for the proper play the bone facial rig animation lacks the other facial bones. Therefore I suggested use legacy mode , but if you like the animator state machine then is generic your choise.

Turns out that I lose the facial animation in Unity when choosing 'humanoid' rig in the inspector. If I leave the rig set to "generic" teh face & eye animations play fine. So it's not liking the humanoid rig.

Well, what's really strange is the facial animation DOES play in teh Unity inspector preview but not in the scene view

The only conclusion at this point is that the pipeline must be broken somewhere in the latest release.

no if so it would not play in the preview mode . I think you use mechanim

Wich G3 Character do you use ?

This seems to only be an issue with G3-based characters.

After 3 days of trying everything and carefully following every video tutorial out there, I have been unsuccessful at getting a standard iclone character's facial (rigged)*expressions* to play in Unity. Only the the body and mouth (visemes) animations play in Unity.- No eye motions or expressions. The only conclusion at this point is that the pipeline must be broken somewhere in the latest release.

This seems to be the best, clearest video tutorial and I've followed it to the letter at least 5 times. no joy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xnCpGOQEcoU (and kudos to Warlord720 for such a well-produced an informative video).

I've tried:
-exporting separate fbxs for character and animation
-exporting fbx with geo AND animation embedded

Anyone else experiencing this?

Thanks!

-Mark
