Hi folks:
You might be surprised at Apparition coming back into the scene. I am currently fighting some health problems which kept me out of context for a while.

I just learned RL has no plans to continue supporting the export plugins in the future. As a developer who has produced and have in the market more than 1300 products I feel neglected and pushed aside. All my developments have been done via 3DSMAX, and although I have carefully reviewed the features in 3DX native exchange program I find MANY things which are IMPOSSIBLE to do using such means alone.

Fortunately the older plugins available still work but I am afraid most of the new cloth features which will be part of iCone 6.0 will be impossible using those plugins.

I just wonder how, for instance, my STUNT characters could have been done via the FBX pipeline....

Are we the few, classic developers, which made great efforts to bring iClone to a higher level, producing countless items which enriched the iClone arsenal, going to be set aside ?

As it seems now, we will have to go through the contorted path of the FBX diddling process but I still cannot realize how will it be possible to reach the possibilities a good plugin could deliver...

How can we do vertex pinning to custom cloth and drapery without the plugins?

Developing with a plugin is a FAST process. It is easy to go in a straight line between iClone and MAX or MAYA, allowing for quick testing and correction. Having to go through the whole ladder via 3DX-FBX is a much steeper process.

Please understand I do not disagree with the 3DX concept and the benefits it brings for those interested in switching platforms for a better render. It is fine and I applaud the effort!

But letting the excessive enthusiasm in the new production pipeline to curtail the originally classic way to produce content, vertically and interactively DOES NOT MAKE SENSE TO ME.

At this point I am highly inhibited to think on new products, worse if I have to go through the contorted road of "exchanging"...

Sorry to hear you've been I'll. May you recover quickly!

Cloth pinning can be done through FBX, but still requires a selection set from Max or Maya. There is an option to save the additional vertex data in the FBX exporter from these programs.

Thanks for the good wishes PSD!

Now I have to disagree with you about MAX being "OLD"!....
I am quite "old" myself and still believe no one can do better for me than myself!...

Forks and spoons are quite "old" but I bet you cannot eat well without them, mainly the soup! LoL!

It is not the "age" of technology but what it can do for you. The "new" stuff, developed by inexperienced wiz kids, no matter good willing young folks, definitely has drawbacks. But in Autodesk's case, you can bet if they would have a split second thought about MAX or MAYA being "obsolete or old" there would NOT be newer versions constantly coming out.

Actually it depends on the depth of the particular work. Absolutely THERE ARE MANY things, mainly innovative ideas which cannot be done with 3DX-iClone alone. Everyone trying to do serious work with 3DX-iClone will agree you need to resort to a higher level 3D program to do certain things, maybe most of all things...

You know I strive for unconventional things, out-of-the-box ideas, to push the secret powers of iClone to the surface. About the half of my products would be truly impossible had I not used 3DMAX to work.

And.... "new" technologies are always suspect of hidden "buggies", quirks, oversight, corporate rush and frustration!... Isn't it right?:D

Again... Thanks for your true good wishes my friend!

Tres bien, Monsieur!

Thanks for your kind wishes!

About "emulation", I suppose it is always my pleasure to invite clever folks to follow my concepts!

I hope the Greater Power above will give me a chance to plant new "seeds"!

Thanks again!

Thanks sw0000p!

Actually, it is RL who is in danger of being abandoned if persisting in setting aside MAX and MAYA developers.

So far I am still "relaying" on MAX to make things and the whole idea of having to "match bone rigs", push and pull FBX stuff, converting it into something as to get it back to "add whatever", then go back, export it load it in iClone and realize it is ugly and having to go back and do the whole "push and pull" all over and over, and when I finally need some pin points, some external control boxes for deformation, then I realize I have to go back to do things the "old fashion way":D

I might rather turn to my music keyboards and play along the cries of the spirit and the joy of every new morning!...
