I was hoping I could animate a lip sync animation on a DAZ Genesis character in iClone and export it out via an FBX back into DAZ Studio. Unfortunately, this doesn’t seem to work as the FBX from iClone/3DXchange seems to rename all morph sliders (so aniBlocks in Studio cannot be created and used on other Genesis models) and for some reason, the skeleton rig for the character seems to be stripped from the model completely.
Is anyone else having this problem?
Additionally, it would be nice for a DAZ Studio profile to be created in 3DXchange to select for the export so settings like translation, scale, and all morph targets retain the same names/values.

Wouldn't you export it out as a BVH then apply it to your Genesis model in Daz?

@msjeabea: BVH doesn't include lipsynching, at least in iClone. @Artman009: I've tried reimporting a Genesis character into DAZ using FBX and it didn't work well. However, I was able to export the same character from 3DXchange into Carrara with character and animation in tact, including the lipsynching, all of which was added iClone. This makes me wonder if perhaps FBX import into DAZ is broken.

DAZ says FBX import
a. FBX files can be round-tripped through DAZ Studio now. b. FBX import supports DAZ Studio weight mapping and animation, but not other types right now . So the only reason because FBX import not work is DAZ self.;)

Maybe, however you can export an avatar with both skeleton and morph animation from DAZ to an FBX and re-import back into it using the same FBX, no problem. So either DAZ Studio is exporting the FBX in a unique way (which 3DXchange can read fine) or 3DXchange is using a different FBX setting upon its export. Who knows?

It can also export to an FBX that 3DXchange can read, so could it not export back out in the same format that DAZ can read? Obviously, we're all just speculating here but I was hoping Peter (RL) or someone could confirm.

Sorry I'm not Peter ,but I think I Know how it work under the Hood :D Again, DAZ can export an FBX and re-import back in fine Again FBX import supports DAZ Studio weight mapping and animation, but not other types right now if you retarget the bones in exchange, it loose the native DAZ format No speculation only a fact

Obviously, we're all just speculating here but I was hoping Peter (RL) or someone could confirm.Unfortunately there is no one standard for FBX Export/Import and Daz's FBX import is not as versatile as other 3D software such as Max and Maya. As Vidi has already explained this is why you are encountering problems. We are hoping that Daz will improve FBX import in a future update but for now there are still unresolved issues.

Peter, thanks for addressing. I guess I was hoping for a DAZ Studio FBX setting in 3DXchange to be available upon export, because I do know a FBX exported from DAZ and be reimported into DAZ no problem, but not once that FBX has been filtered through 3DXchange. While I have you, any chance you can address this issue?

I was able to export the same character from 3DXchange into Carrara with character and animation in tact, including the lipsynching, all of which was added iClone. How did you do that? Howeever much I tried, I haven't been able to export any FBX facial animation (lipsynching) from iClone to Carrara, only the body animation. What is your secret? Thanks.
