hi Guys Here's a tipp from the German Forum. Translated by Google Translator I'll give you a slightly more detailed instructions. Possibly You know it already the most. But can not hurt. I assume that the destination folder already on drive E exists. If not, that should be done first. Please note: The command is "mklink" not "MLINK". The tipp is for Windows 7Whether the tipp for Windows 10 has its validity I do not know. 1. Windows DOS box (prompt) openable as an administrator: - Click on the Windows Start button and in the search box "Search programs / files" you would enter. - cmd - Then the press while holding down the "left Ctrl and left shift key" ENTER. - Answer Windows Security check (UAC) with "Yes". 2. Change to the DOS window in the directory where the link is to be created. - Entry (example): cd \ users \ public \ documents \ Reallusion \ custom 3. Create Dynamic Link: - Ensure that there is no folder with the same name exists, as the name of the link to get. - Entry (example): mklink / J "iClone 5 Custom" "E: \ iClone data \ iClone 5 Custom" - Press Enter. That it should have been already. Basically, this is likely to work with any directory. The programs will practically fooled that the link to the original folder. Greetings from Germany action

justaviking (7/18/2013)...Which is exactly why it should be a settings in the Preference panel. I have passed this to the iClone team for consideration. Certainly this will be evaluated for a future upgrade or version. Thanks for all the great feedback. Thank you, Peter.

I hope this is an option in the next version. My Reallusion folder is touching 25gb and I think it's smaller than most probably have here.

animagic (7/17/2013) Personally, I find changing a few registry settings easier than reinstalling...For those experienced with editing the system registry this is probably true, but for those unfamiliar with the process, plus with the number of changes required, we don't really recommend it. Missing out just one or two of the required changes could leave you scratching your head wondering what went wrong. :hehe: ...Which is exactly why it should be a settings in the Preference panel. If you changed a Preference for something like "custom props folder" it'd be really cool if it asked if you wanted to move any existing content to the new folder. Of course it would have to check the available disk space first. It'd be nice to be able to set your locations for Props, Terrain, Characters, and output files. You should be able to, via the application, modify where almost every "asset" folder resides. However, anything that is not embedded in the project would be challenging (Pop video?). Possibly they'd have to remain in their original location, or you need to allow the user to "find" the asset when opening an older project. (Maybe look in the new preferenced location, and ask the user, "Use the copy in this location?" if it finds the file there. but allow user to navigate to any folder.) Only moving the application itself should require a reinstallation.

Personally, I find changing a few registry settings easier than reinstalling... That said, if users were able to simply change the root for Custom and Template content in the Options settings that might be a solution. However, there are possible dependencies with content that is included by reference into projects (which is fortunately rare in iClone projects), so moving your content elsewhere should be done with that in mind.

The distribution Gerry (Wires) described is very common. These locations should be OPTIONS we can modify even AFTER INSTALLATION. "During installation" is wonderful, but many times you don't know how you want it configured until after you've used an application for a while. Besides, you're naturally excited to get your new software installed and running so you can play with it, so you just click "Next, next, next" and figure you'll change storage locations later.

My C drive contains only programme files. My default and custom iClone files are stored on an extra drive, and my iClone Temp folder is on yet another drive. All of these options are selectable during installation. Keeping all of this stuff split up has many advantages, the main programme is reading from drive C, files are being read from the content drive and Temp files are being written to their own drive. No single drive is being overworked with a serious dose of read/writes almost at once, and the system seems to run faster and smoother - can't really remember when I had my last crash. I don't only do this with iClone; Sketchup and Gimp files are also stored on the content drive. My NLE has one drive for Recording/Reading and yet another for Storage/Writing. 6 drives just for running software and storing files and 1 main backup drive for images/downloads. Just my way of doing things, and drive prices being what they are makes it easier on the mind and the pocket.:)
