01. Installation Instruction & Download Resources


In order to maintain proper operation of your installed applications (Cartoon Animator, Motion Live 2D Plugin, and iClone);
we will provide you with Early Access applications in the form of zip files. 
You can then run Early Access applications independently. 
Please read the following post carefully before installing the programs and plug-ins.


AP & Content Files (For Early Access Only, expired after Dec. 10th)
  • CTA 4.4 Software
    • CTA4.4_Beta.zip (280 MB)
      ** Notice: Updated on Nov 19th. For those who don't have Motion Live 2D Plug-in previously, the updated version has the plug-in pre-installed in the software.
    • MotionLink.reg (3KB)
  • Cartoon Animator Motion Link Plugin for Iclone 7.8
  • Content Pack for Cartoon Animator 4.4 
Important Note: 
  • Your creations during this Early Access program will NOT be compatible with the official version. If you are trying out this version for a project, please use this early access version from start to finish. 
  • You should stay away from running this CTA 4.4 early access program along with your current official CTA software at the same time.
  • You have to update your iClone to version 7.8, in order to run this program.
  • The Early Access program will expire on December 9th, 2020. However, all projects created with this program can still be used when the official version comes out.
  • If you don't have iClone, you still can try the new updates of 3D Motion Converter in CTA.

1. What is Motion Live 2D and Why do I need it?
 
Motion LIVE 2D is a plug-in for Cartoon Animator to
 
Control an array of mocap gear with real-time animation
Link to iClone to further real-time edit your 3D motion to 2D Character. (NEW!)
 
In order to link to iClone for motion creation and editing, you will have to install this Motion Live 2D Plug-in under Cartoon Animator. 
 
2. What is iClone Motion Link Plugin and Why do I need it?
 
Motion Link is a plug-in for iClone to send real-time motion editing data to 2D characters in Cartoon Animator. In order to link to Cartoon Animator, you will have to install Motion Link plug-in for iClone.

How to launch Cartoon Animator v4.4 Early Access Version:

  • Please make sure you have installed the official Cartoon Animator 4.0.
  • Please make sure you have closed the official Cartoon Animator 4.0.
  • Unzip the “CTA4.4_Beta.zip” file.
  • Go to the “~\CTA4.4_Beta\bin64\”.

  • Execute “CartoonAnimator.exe”

How to enable the Motion Link Profile in Motion LIVE 2D:

  • Please make sure you have terminated the Cartoon Animator v4.4 Beta version before you start enabling the Motion link Profile.

  • Execute "MotionLink.reg" (double-click).

  • Click “Yes”.

  • Select top menu: Plugins > Motion LIVE 2D > Motion LIVE 2D.

01- 2 Installation (iClone - Motion Link)

  • Install the iClone Motion Link Plugin

    • Please make sure you update iClone to version 7.8 or above.

    • Unzip the “iClone_MotionLink_plugin.zip”.

  • Copy the “MotionLink” folder.

  • Open file location (the default address at: C:\Program Files\Reallusion\iClone 7\Bin64).

  • Launch the iClone 7.8 then open the Motion Link plugin.

  • Load the default character.

  • Click the activate Link button.

How to activate Motion Link?

  • Execute the “~\CTA4.4_Beta\bin64\CartoonAnimator.exe”

  • Load a character from the Content Manager. 

  • Select top menu / Plugins / Motion LIVE 2D.

  • Connect the iClone Motion Link. (Green light means successful).
  • iClone started streaming motion data to Cartoon Animator.

  • Setup the character body settings as iClone Motion Link.

  • Go back to the iClone and enable the “Send to Cartoon Animator”

  • Now you can enjoy your 3D character sync motion with the 2D character.

02  How to Add and Find Embedded Content 

1) Launch CTA 4.4 program

2)  Hover the mouse over any content item on Content Manager Panel, and right click to “Find File”

3) Go back to “Cartoon Animator 4 Template”

5) Launch “CTA4.4_BetaContent_v2" folder and open “Content” folder

Where to find your new content:

I downloaded the 3 zip files earlier today but can't find a file MotionLink.reg in any of the 3 unzipped folders. I searched all 3 folders but no *.reg or MotionLink.reg file found. Can I get it another way?

   CTA4.4_Beta_v2
   CTA4.4_BetaContent_v2
   iClone_MotionLink_plugin

I'm also curious about the instructions word to "terminate". I take it to mean turn off  CTA so it's not running, not uninstall. It sounds more final... like uninstall.

Hi,
I'm confused, guys. I have done everything correctly (I think). but when I try to connect iClone to CA4 the "body" in CA4 is greyed out so I cannot select it. Please see the image attached.

I updated everything, iClone, CA4 (not beta) and all my plugins. I installed the .reg file and copied the motion live folder into iclone. Everything should be fine.

Does anyone have any idea what's going on, please?

I'm knocking myself on the head wondering how I missed it. It won't, however, be the first time I was blind to seeing things in front of my nose. Wink Not sure how I could have missed it. Whoops.

The word "terminate" creates a confusion, which could mean uninstall. I would suggest the terms "Close", "Close down", "Shut down", "make sure it's not running",or
similar. I hope that it helps. Cheers :-)

Face3D profile does not effect the functionality of Motion Link, you can click on "OK" to proceed.

3D Motion Converter is an embedded feature in the new version of CTA, you can directly download CTA4.4_Beta.zip (280 MB)  to try 3D motion converter.

After I executed "CartoonAnimator.exe",  the logo (ver.4.3) appeared but the program did not open.
Is this normal?  Should I proceed to the next step?

*Update*
I proceeded to the next step. 
Double clicked the 'MotionLink'.
Once done, I double clicked "'CartoonAnimator.exe" again.
Program did not open.

Just a typo to correct in the last section of the tutorial on how to link iClone with Cartoon Animator: "Sync to Cartoon Animator" should read "Send to Cartoon Animator".

I have the same problem, still unsolved. Apparently the tech. support is working on it. It maybe a conflict with the existing CA4.3, but it's not confirmed.
