Although it can be confusing at first, once you get used to how the options work it will become clearer.
Basically you have 3 export format options available to you.
1) Original Resolution. If you choose this option a blue box will surround your image. You can make adjustments to the blue box by dragging it. When you do this the output size will change to reflect the new size. The maximum output size will be determined by your original source image.
2) Target Resolution - Use Full Image. When you use this option your entire character will frame will be exported within the output size you have set. So for example if your character image is square but you choose an output size which is widescreen then your whole character will show only in the middle with blank areas either side. It is best to use a resolution that matches that of your original image with this option.
3) Target Resolution - Crop. When this option is used a box will surround your character. You can adjust the box size. It will be red when within your character frame and blue when outside. This cropped area will be the part that is exported to the set output size.
The best way to get the hang of these different options is to practice outputting using the options above. It will become clearer once you look at the outputted image/video. Give it a try and see how you get on.
