I've been trying to import them, but Sketchup just handles its geometry and UV maps TOO BADLY.

I can't even import them to 3D Coat to retopoligize them because they can't be read correctly by the voxel room. No matter how simple you make the shape, it still ends up messing it up.

This really sucks 'cause sketchup makes it pretty simple to model things.

Everyone's talking about "Oh get LWCAD for Lightave" and I do have lightwave, but I DON'T have 300 more dollars to spend on it. And what makes me upset is they all say it like it's just a piece of pie to get... UGH.

Anyways, anyone found solutions for this?

I could model these things in another modeler such as Lightwave by itself, but it's still a bit more trickier than it is in Sketchup.

Any suggestions?

Did you ever get anywhere with this ? I am going through the same isses myself, though I have found a few workarounds but am having real issues with the Uvs. If I could make good uv sets I would have the pipleline sorted.

Blue, if you are looking for a solution to making UV maps in SketchUp then maybe this information by Colonel Klink might help.

Do a search for "sketchup UV mapping". There are a few. There are also OBJ exporters so you could map it externally. Or just export a DEA (Collada) from the file menu.

I have found that objects modeled in Sketchup do not import very well into Sculptris either. Aside from the uv mapping in my tutorial, I also use SketchUV, a plugin for Sketchup. It has an additional feature: tube mapping which is handy for piping etc.
I have yet to try mapped objects into Zbrush.
