I am trying to create a news movie, want to have my character in front of a wall with a fixed neutral image and pop an image or a movie on certain parts of the wall (different image sizes / movies to play behind the character as he talks...)

a bit like the video in the following link, maybe more versatile and dynamic with the type of media and sizes that should be embedded on the wall.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VKfA0xN2q-k

I played a bit with the billboards / display boards but they seem to be able to wither stretch / tile the media and I can't find a way to control the sizes.

can you point me to a good tutorial  / any tips on that ?

(i am not looking for a studio look or something like that)

Hi ,
if you watch the second tutorial on this page you will understand how UV tiling and offset work.

These are very good tutorials Smile I watched all 3...

I am still not clear how to achieve the specific thing I am looking for thought - let's say I have a big wall and I want to:

  • Put a picture on top of the wall and play with the picture size and location
  • Or have a video animation play on part of the wall and again - control the size and position of the video on the wall (with the rest of the wall in the same texture)

Also - If the 3D parts are so versatile - why are the billboard / display-boards required?

Again - thank you very much Smile

Hi narf2n. Why not load 3d Surface plane's (A), and drag your vid's onto these planes. You can then easily adjust position and size of each plane to suit.

i thought about layering plane 3D parts - is that what you are suggesting?

i am not sure i follow and still - i bought the virtual studio pack with billboards and display boards - o i am trying to figure out how are they different and what are they good for that i can not achieve with the plan parts if i am following you correctly...

is there a video sample for something like that ?

I think you are following. Just drag and drop your videos onto either the plane, display board, 3d blocks, character's, prop's, or whatever. They will all have the exact same results. The only difference between the boards, etc and the planes is that the boards have a pre-made depth or shape and a border to enhance visually and which I believe you can texture to your own requirements should you wish to do so. I'm not sure re tutorials but you could look at the web page where you purchased Studio. I'm sure some instruction will be there and/or just do a search on YouTube to pick up the Reallusion training/information video tutorials. Regards.

Edit: Try these: http://www.reallusion.com/contentstore/csproduct.aspx?contentid=AIC400DIENU050120091103001&MenuItem=ic_scene&Type=Props
