Hi Folks,
Could do with some advice on importing FBX model files from other sites into Iclone and experiencing issues where the model originally has multiple props (e.g. a coffin with a separate lid) however when I import into Iclone, it only recognises the whole object.

Is there something I should be doing to allow Iclone to view them both?

Any advice would be helpful (happy to share a link to the model I wanted to use that is giving me problems).

Thanks

Your best bet is to load the object into Blender and split it apart there using those mesh and vertex select tools (and then you can export each object separately).

There's a tutorial on this on my YouTube channel if you can't figure it out.

In case you have Character Creator, you can import the prop into that. If there are separate components you can split them out and create subprops from them.

Manual: https://manual.reallusion.com/Character-Creator-4/Content/ENU/4.0/09-Editing-Meshes/Extracting-Meshes-to-Form-Sub-Props.htm.

I always use the Character creator method. Often, it splits the imported object into parts automatically for you. It’s faster and simpler.

Thanks guys, this advice was really useful and I managed to create new elements from scratch and then convert them into sub-props.

Whilst doing that, I noticed that CC already recognises the meshes for the lid (before I did anything) - it's called 'Cover' and 'Main' so I was wondering if it's possible to just convert what it already sees?

At the moment, when selecting those parts, it doesn't allow you to do anything with them, it doesn't select or highlight the parts or anything.

I'm trying to recognise what that icon is representing for 'Cover' and wondering if there's a way I can convert it in some way? - there doesn't appear to be a 'convert to sub-prop available' so I am guessing if there's another way, its through another method? grateful for your thoughts.

The original method explained in the thread works fine though, so I've got a way to separate it but just wondering if there's an even quicker way, seeing as it recognises it in some way, thanks.

That is a rig (mesh it still single - SK_Coffin.001 in your case). You may animate with rig bones if appropriate. You may also Edit bone weights for the mesh to your liking.
... or still extract parts from a single mesh for sub-props in Mesh Edit mode as discussed above.

Brilliant, thanks dude, just tried 'edit animation layer' and it works. Now wondering if its possible to use that to get fluid animation motions?

When I tried to move the lid of the coffin to open a few seconds in, and playback, it goes from a closed lid to the fully opened lid without any fluid motion. Is there any way to make it fluid when using 'Edit Animation Layer' ?

Thanks,

Make sure to enable Clip Auto Extend. Otherwise it would create isolated clips on timeline.
