I’d like to create an animated  character to use as a narrator in videos. I’ve already made a couple of brief test  exports of the character talking & gesticulating with no background. Now I  need to know how to do the same thing in a scene or against a background. I  imported the character from Character Creator into a sample project from the  Smart Gallery. I selected the character and applied a motion clip, but it  caused the whole scene to move, going through all the rooms depicted in the project.

I’m using iClone 7.93, but from  watching tutorials I note that many of the basic features are the same as in  iC-8. I have not mastered many of the fundamental animation techniques, and I’m  hoping that someone here can give me a head start by explaining the steps by  which I can manage my character against a static background, whether in a scene  or a project. Thanks very much.

There are several ways to do what you want even when using a sample scene. In the post you have not mentioned which sample scene you are using and this omission makes it impossible to even know where to start offering advice.

It sounds to me like the sample scene he loaded had camera animation saved into it.
Select your camera at frame one and check to timeline for any motion/key frame indicators and delete an motion you find.

I  didn’t give the name of the sample because it’s in iClone 7, but maybe you’re  familiar with it ~ it’s called Loft Scene iProject.

If I recall, that loft project has multiple cameras and animation. Find the camera dropdown menu in the toolbar and set it to "Preview". By default it is likely set to "Switch" to automatically switch between cameras as the timeline plays. When set to Preview, it is using the preview camera which you can set however you need it at frame 1.

You can learn more about cameras with this video.

Rampa: this  looks like a very comprehensive answer! Thanks so much, I’ll try it out soon. 😊
