I don't have adobe photoshop and it's pretty pricey. The paint software I have doesn't support the G3 clone cloth templates. Any suggestions on free software that will work?

I use GIMP, it meets all my needs and is free. Inkscape may work too, it's also free.

Cheers and welcome :)

Another one is Paint.NET (http://www.getpaint.net). There is also Paint Shop Pro, which is not free but quite comprehensive and much cheaper than Photoshop. One nice thing is that it actually accepts Photoshop plug-ins. I think Gimp does that too, by the way.

Hey,

Thanks for responding. I tried downloading GIMP but it says it can't open Dylan Clone cloth upper because it's an unknown file type. Is there some trick I'm missing? I've gotten G2 stuff to work, just not G3.

here's another free one I just found yesterday, looks pretty decent as well and has a nice selection of tools

http://www.photopos.com/

thee are a few free choices, you just have to play until you find one that works well. Gimp is nice but it's not without it's quirks either

G3 is a bit more complicated than G2. There is a tutorial by Alley about this, see this post: https://forum.reallusion.com/FindPost48754.aspx.

Basically, the G3 CloneCloth templates are material files, which means that the Diffuse, Opacity, and other channels are combine in one file with you can not edit directly. To work with the template, you have to apply the material to one of the clothed characters (Trey or Violet) that come with the CloneCloth pack. I don't have iClone in front of me, but I believe that the templates have the same names as the clothing (Overcoat A for example) to make it easier to load them. You can then edit the various channels by loading the graphics files in your editor in the usual way.

Alley's tutorial explains how to create G3 CloneCloth bases (as you had for G2 CC), so everything will be easier to work with. It would have been nice if RL had done that for us...

Hi,

Thanks to all for your responses. It turns out that the problem was not a question of which software to use. The G3 templates are in imtl format and have to be converted into jpg format in order to edit them with photoshop, gimp, paint, etc.

Star by choosing a G3 clone cloth avatar. Select "upper", "lower", or "shoes". Next, in the "material and texture settings" section of the "modify menu" where it lists the selected material there is an eyedropper just to the right (called"pick") use this to select the template, upper or lower, on your avatar. It won't highlight or anything you just need faith. Next, somewhat further down the page,to the right of the "uv ref." button you have "open, delete, and a "save as" icons. click on the "save as" icon and save the template as a jpg file, somewhere where you can find it easily later. This jpg file is the one your going to modify in photoshop etc.

I hope this is a clear description. When I figure out how to set up gimp as the default template modifier in iClones preferences, I'll get back to you.

sas
