When I use an existing / stock actor like Johnny for example, I can use the face puppet tool and make his eyes roll and move. But when I switch his default eye sprite for a custom eye image I created (vector or PNG), the ability to roll and move his eye with the face puppet tool is lost. Can someone please explain the steps needed to make my custom eye behave the same way as the default eye of a default actor?

Hi...
You can't just change one sprite to get customised eyes. There are several things to change, including the white of the eye, the iris and also masking to consider.
Please take a look at the tutorial below. This explain how to change facial features including eyes in your chosen image editor (6:28 for the eyes).
