I thought I had better post this as a separate topic to get the attention of whoever needs to respond.

In watching the BuildingGen thingee ad at the very end they show some roads being generated - at least that's what it looks like.  But nowhere in any of the tutorials Kai did is this mentioned or done.  So now I'm thinking that maybe all they did was use, um, perhaps the path tool?  (Although if it generates surfaces then it's something I never knew).

So what's the story?  I'm MILDLY interested in the BuildGen thing (for the most part it looks aimed at folks who need VERY specific buildings, which I do not, and while it looks a *bit* fun to use it also looks like a lot of work for someone like me who is just interested in getting the scene and animating it.  So Daz models fit this bill very well with no need to customize).  IF you can also do some sort of roads I might well pick it up against my better judgement, but if that's using some other tool/approach I'll probably pass.

Anyone know?

Hi Mike

The Building Sampler that comes with the BuildingGen Plug-in contains basic floor props in various shapes with a selection of different floor textures.

The French Style add-on pack contains additional floor components such as sidewalks, pavements, mezzanine and a larger selection of floor textures

However, there are no "road" specific props included such as floors with road markings or road signs.

Thanks, Peter.

After looking at how it works with your own building props/materials, I've decided it's definitely worth a purchase (honestly, RL should have led with that).

I have SO many Daz items (like Castle Construction sets and Sci-Fi building sets, all with individual parts I think I can leverage like Kai shows) that it becomes something truly valuable to me (one of the reasons I've never used Daz construction kits is the effort to align  and manage things, which this plugin seems to do very well).

So it will definitely be a buy for me (the other thing I will need to do is write a Python routine to handle some of the things Kai shows you have to do with your assets, like adjust pivot and world placements.  So I'll have my routines just do this automagically for my imported assets - I already have the Python routine written to bring in all the materials properly).

Again - I wish this was something brought up in the forefront of the promo video - you might want to pass that on to marketing (but I'll be making a video of my own showing my efforts with Daz stuff, and most likely post it here).

Looking forward to your review of this one, Mike.  Yeah, the ability to make custom elements from other sets, looks promising.  I'm mulling this one over very seriously.

I just bought it but it will have to wait until tomorrow evening before I can play.

I did spend an hour or so BEFORE my purchase going over some assets I had from Daz and following Kai's tutorial to see how practical it was to even position them the way he did with other outside ones.  I won't pretend it's not a bit of work, but given that once you've done it you should have the ability to do a lot of things very difficult to do otherwise it might be worth it.  But, again, I will have to say how well these outside assets work.

I'll post a video review of the whole thing at least by the weekend.

Cool Mike. I'll wait to see your test to buy it. I need it too  not for the models already there but for personnal models. I ve spent hours to align correctly things and if it can be done automatically, that's great, a huge time saver

This would be awesome! 🤩 I’m using lots of DAZ content myself and I have the same issue with construction kits.

Yeah, there are a LOT of things about BG that need to be fixed/changed/addressed - it's an interesting first take on things but has a long ways to go.

I'll post a long video review showing all of this in a week or so but I do want to let the devs hear my issues first and see what they have to say (and they have contacted me so we'll see what happens).
