Please be assured there is nothing "shady" or "borked" about the trial version. 

The trial version is in use by many thousands of users and is working for the vast majority without any issues. However, there was a temporary issue causing problems for some so please do try again as the issue may now be resolved.

In addition, common causes of issues with the trial is unsupported hardware or outdated graphics drivers. So as a first step please make sure you have the latest system updates on your computer by running Windows Update and also install the latest Nvidia or AMD graphics drivers. Do also check that your computer meets the "Recommended" requirements HERE.

However, if the problem continues, please contact Reallusion Support using the link below. They will help you to overcome the issue.

This application seems rather shady at best.
I just tried to demo the Character Creator 4 which Reallusion claims there's a 30 day trial, but its unusable because as soon as it opens it shows the initial splash window, if I try to close it the first error is "[CC][MainWindow] Login token is invalid. Please try to re-login.". 

It then forces me to relogin again. I login, with my correct credentials and, after that, it simply reopens the splash window. If I close it again it loads nothing. When I try to refresh the my template items, it will result in the error: "Refresh Error. Please wait a moment. If the problem persists, then contact Reallusion Support"

I already reinstalled the program several times and there are absolutely no issues with my wired ethernet connection. So is the trial version conveniently borked? What is the point of a trial version if its impossible to trial anything because the software is broken?
