I'm new to the Marketplace as a Content Developer.
Doing some research and have a question that I am hoping someone can help me with.
I picked the Character Creator -> Reallusion Certified section but this applies to any of the top level categories.
So, in the Reallusion Certified section you get 1256 results (no filters set).
If you sort by "Top Selling 1 Month" you still get 1256 results but they are presumably now sorted by best sellers.
However, I cannot bring myself to believe that all 1256 items presented had sales (remember this applies to all top level categories including Outfits with over 11,000 items).
I'm doing "marketing" research and am not interested in items with zero sales.
Does anyone know how to tell which of the items actually had sales?  Am I asking for too much?

You are just sorting by sales. Items with zero sales will probably still be in that list. In other words, if you have, say, 1.000 items in you list and only the top 10 of those have had any sales in the period specified, then the other 990 items with 0 sales will still be sorted (basically all sharing "last place"). I don't think, being in this list necessarily means that the item had at least one sale during the period.
RL is not exactly forthcoming when it comes to actual sales statistics. Other 3D-asset platforms have a rewards system or an experience score which will increase with the number of sales a vendor makes, i.e. high scores = many sales, low scores = few sales; while not perfect either, these systems will provide some guideline to the vendor's total sales but still won't reveal how often any specific item sells.
Another way to guestimate sales would be the number of ratings (on non-free items).

I also think that many vendors, especially those with very limited success, would not want their numbers out there which may be why RL does not reveal detailed sales data publicly.
