Oh thanks! I haven’t updated my signature in ages. I’ve been using Unreal these days. Pretty amazing what iclone and Unreal can do together!

Hi Kungphu,

Thanks for your reply and the info on the motion editor.

I think the problem is always with pre-created animations - hidden keyframes etc.

BTW - nice film :)

It’ll help if you get familiar with the motion editor. It can be a bit daunting at first but really it’s step one in character animation. After a while it’ll be a breeze! There’s a learning curve for sure. Remember when you tweak an animation position you need a key frame of the position you want the body part to stay in before it moves and then you change the position it moves to with the motion editor. I kept forgetting that and legs/arms would go flying away before I wanted them. Definitely try out as much as you can. If you get stuck, this forum is an excellent resource of help. I’m constantly using it. Folks like Mark are rockstars in animation. He’s been cranking out amazing looking films since the ancient days of clone 5 without all the bells and whistles. He still managed to make great looking stuff. Best of luck with your film!

Hi Kungphu and Mark,

Thanks for your replies and help.

I tried the reach target but the animation started to look very unnatural. With the gun being too static and his arm wobbling around it from the hand point. I used LINK to the hand instead of ATTACH. But then it meant animating moves with the gun too. It became too complex.

I've managed to get it looking okay with deleting the keyframes and copy/pasting the same positions for most of it but what happens is that if the torso moves in any way, that arm also moves and therefore, the gun moves too.

This bit I'm not sure how to do ... For now I've left the movements in...

You also might try using the Reach Target feature. You can select that hand and it will lock to the reach target and then you can release it when needed.

Oh I like that! I don’t use reach target nearly enough.

You can right click on the animation and select remove animation, then select the proper arm. The results are usually a little odd looking since the shoulder may move the arm around. You can use the motion editor and when his arm moves to a weird position just move the arm where you want it. Scrub back and forth in the timeline repositioning the arm where you want for the clip. There’s different ways to do it, but that would be my first approach.

Hi,

I'm trying to do an iC8 animation where I want the right arm of a sitting character to stay in place while holding a rifle gun upright.

I do to want the gun to swing around but stay in place with the right arm intact while the rest of the body can move.

It is a pre-recorded animation sequence that I am using for this (one of the example freebies). However, when I delete keyframes for the arm to keep it in place and copy/paste the same position. The arm right arm still moves with the rest of the body and hence, the gun too.

To stay in a position like above. But this happens:

As you can see the right arm and gun moves. Even if I delete all the keyframes for the right arm and create new ones. It still moves with the body.

How can I make it independent from the resto f the body. I have tried body part keyframes etc. but no joy.

Any pointers?

Regards,
Aidemindi
