I watched the pose mixer tutorial multiple times without success. I have also watched many of Reallusions tutorials on animation.
The problem:  I have a character in a standing idle pose (Idle03 F from Camilla).  I found hand, arm and head motions that I like from another pose (Meeting Motions), but that pose is sitting not standing.
I have tried lots of things and combitations of things with no success.
If I Align / Head she is sitting in the air.
If I use pose mixer to mask out the legs (or anything else since I was exprimenting) the sitting animation is unchanged - she sits and waives her arms.
If I keyframe the legs before the sitting animation then paste the keyframes once the sitting motion starts, it doesn nothing - she is still sitting. - this is really puzzling - she is ignoring the new keyframes.
If I paste the leg keyframes after the sitting motion, she spends the sitting motion time moving slowly down. A keyframe at the end of the sitting motion makes her pop up.
Sample Motion Clip / All parts - delete the legs, put in the keyframes from the idle - she still sits.
I turned on Motion Modifier to lock the bottom half, but that didn't work.
Animation layer seems to require that I do the animating by hand, which will look terrible (my lack of skillz!) - I see no way to copy / paste a pose in the Animation Layer
I can probably move the legs by hand, but that is usually tedious and ugly - on some occasions I have had to move the legs (or whatever part) every frame to make it work!
If I do have to move the legs by hand, this is not repeatable for the dozen or so clips in this project and the hundreds/thousands more ahead of me in my lifetime
What is the easy way (that I am missing!!!) to combine these animations?
Thanks!

Pose mixer is only working for a single frame pose  - not animation clip.

You may want to look at this one: https://forum.reallusion.com/FindPost540018.aspx
and another post below the above for more advanced version where upper torso is included in addition to the hands and head.

I have also found and uploaded 2 more videos from a long time ago with iClone7:

Hope those would give you ideas for advanced key-frames management.

Yes it’s definitely something that everyone wants - a way to just apply certain parts from a clip. Hopefully in future we will get multiple TRACKS for MOTION in our characters, and then we can right click on top one and just ‘remove motion’ on all body parts we don’t want. (or possibly a ‘keep motion’ option can be added to the right click.)

Iclone 8’s new “Animation layers” is theoretically another way to do what the OP wants. However, right now, they are unfortunately very limited, and I haven’t found a way to use them much. I have tried everything, but they don’t really seem to work. Maya’s layers are amazing but these are… odd. But In theory, OP should be able to make a new layer, then copy paste from another clip’s keyframes, and then remove the body parts they don’t want. That should ‘add’ just the arm animation, for example.

I have a meeting motion I bought awhile ago from the Marketplace. You have to import the sitting motion into the Preset Folder idle folder. A Rampa Motion Puppet Importing IC animations how to video is easier to do than mine.
Here is my video link of the sitting meeting motion using the right arm and hand and also the head movement, combined with Camila's idle motion.
I don't have IC8, but I do have CC4 and Camila's motions. I just used 3DXChange to convert to IC7.
You have to split Camila's idle motion and add the sitting meeting motion about 260 frames in. Then Collect clip on the 2 motions and save. Then apply that motion to the timeline.
Then you can break about the last 100 frames or so of Camila's idle motion and apply to the end of the last Collect clip motion to get a smooth arm raise and smooth arm down.
I thank God for helping me. God Bless!

Hey Toby,

Weird, was just looking at anim layers this morning and now I’m disappointed. I thought it was going to be like the time editor in Maya to mix clips. Surely the other solution of copying the key frames of another anim clip and pasting on another layer should work though? If not, then what’s the point, I mean that’s how I used Maya when I did animation in there.

I’m gonna do some testing this weekend to see.

Thank you so much for your help.  I have learned lots!
Ultimately, my problem came down to the fact that I was using Camilla's Persona and the motions that come with that.  Idle03_F is Motion Director, not a regular motion, so I was unable to sample it, place keyframes, etc.  Once I found out by looking at the actual motion in the Content Panel, I changed to a different "regular" motion and was able to do All The Things.
Thanks!

Even though it's a Persona motion, once you perform it you can Collect the clip from the Timeline save it and use it as any other Motion file.
If your are familiar with the method of adding a Motion file to the Motion Puppet tool  you could do that and then Mask out areas of the avatar when mixing motions.... I believe.
