Re-import .fbx/ .obj mmodel keeping textures

I've created a number of  rooms in C4d and exported them via .fbx [and in .obj] imported into iClone and set each texture. So far so good but if I need to 'tweak' the model in C4d I have to re-import into iClone and start all over again with the textures.
If I was to do this in Unreal for instance all the textures would remain in place but not so in iClone.
As usual I'm sure there's an easy answer to this but I can't find it.
Please any suggestions?
