Hi. I'm trying to make a simple spotlight with Popcorn. I've searched through all the content (Learning samples, Library 40) and there's none in there. The only thing that resembles it is the Nightclub Laser in the learning samples, but I can't get my head around the gazillion parameters. Is there a simple way to make a spotlight. There should, this should be one of the simplest things to do in Popcorn. I've also tried with the Light Tool props but they don't emit enough light (or I'm not setting them up properly). What I want to do is to put some spotlights in a night club, concert stage, etc. Thanks.

If you go to the Create Tab at the top, you can create different lights. One of them is a spotlight. God Bless!

It doesn't emit any light. I've played around with all the parameters. I want to do it with Popcorn.

You do not really need a popcorn for that. Modern light tools included with IC8 are all based on Volumetric to fake beams. And with proper tweaking they can produce extremely bright light beams. 76% of original size (was 662x19) - Click to enlarge The drawback of Volumetric extension is that transparent objects such as hair are getting messed up pretty badly. So I would rather prefer to stick with old good mesh based cones properly textured: Some old thread: https://forum.reallusion.com/FindPost402787.aspx

I'm still on version 7. I'll check out your link. Thanks.

So, I've downloaded the files from the link you suggested, and I'm getting in the ballpark, but I can't get rid of the "ring" at the top of the cone (see screenshot). My opacity mask is pure black at the top, I've turned off all shadows. Do you have any idea why that ring is there? Thanks 76% of original size (was 662x19) - Click to enlarge

That one has UV map with vertices located right at the boundaries. When opacity map applied to such UV it does create a visible noise what you see at the edge of the cone. You either fix it in Blender by slightly scaling UV map pushing vertices inside. Or, if you still have iClone 6, use one of the Stage Magician projects. It has plenty of clean cones with properly unwrapped UV.

I started using iclone at v7. Is there a way I can get those projects, or at least the cones somewhere? Thanks
