My husband purchased Character Creator and tonight tried unsuccessfully to go through the tutorials because none of the assets (models?) are showing up in the program.  The tutorials show clearly that there are a whole bunch of models included, but you can’t follow the tutorial without the models.  WHERE ARE THEY???
He somehow ended up with a model on the stage (at this point we’re not even sure what to call things…) and as he hovers over parts of the model, they turn yellow.  The tutorial shows that you can change parts of this base model, but when clicking the mouse and dragging or trying to follow the tutorial, nothing happens.
We are frustrated beyond belief, and would appreciate any help in trying to get the software set up to the point where he can follow the tutorials.  It doesn’t help that we also had to buy a PC to run this…we are Mac people and struggling through Windows as well (It would be nice if you could go five minutes without McAfee interfering with everything you’re trying to do!).

Hi...

It can be daunting when you first open powerful software like CC4, but we do have several getting started tutorials which you should watch before doing anything else.

CC4 comes with quite a lot of free content but this needs to be downloaded and installed first. Please watch the tutorial called "Getting Started With Smart Content Manager" on the page below. This will explain how to download all the free assets so you are ready to use them when you want to try out other features. Then watch the other Getting Started tutorials so you are familiar with the interface before proceeding.

I hope this helps. :)

Thanks so much for your quick reply!

Bobby says that he was prompted to download the content when he installed, but nothing happened. There are folders, but when he double-clicks them they are empty. He stopped at the first tutorial because there is no content and it acts like the app can’t access the internet although the computer is definitely connected.

I definitely know about the headaches with complex software…ZBrush made me cry in the beginning it was so outside my comfort zone. Bobby has been creating book covers with ZBrush (I taught him), but we’re having to manually pose the character on every cover in the series. This was recommended by his cover artist as a solution.

If we can just get past this, it looks like a fantastic piece of software. Bobby was a programmer at Dell, but it’s probably been a decade since he’s touched a Windows machine, and lots has changed there also. Again, thanks for your generous help!

These are a couple of the alerts he got. He also turned off the firewall and nothing changed.

One other thing…clicking and dragging on body parts doe not make them change shape. If he uses a slider on the right hand panel, it will change shape of a model he did manage to get into the program. The mouse will not affect them.

To use the mouse, you need to activate the morph button at the top.
I would also recommend uninstalling the McAfee program.
I think windows defender works pretty well.
As @Peter said, it may be helpful to watch the beginner tutorial videos before using the program.
