Hey Guys, we've been working with Daz3D for years to create still illustrations.  But now we need to start fully animating our characters in Reallusion iClone.  Has anyone exported characters from Daz3d (along with all textures, clothing, hair, assets, etc.), and imported them into iClone, then SUCCESSFULLY animated them in that platform without further rigging?   What file format is best?

THANKS for any suggestions, tips, tricks, warnings, and/or methods we should know!

Using CC3/4 Transformer is always the best for characters/clothing/hair.  There are TONS of tutorials on this process (my own YouTube channel, ahem, included).

(Nearly everything I animate in iClone comes from Daz).

Gen 9 characters are not yet supported by CC4 as they are newly released.
However, I think there will be an update about it in the future.
I haven't tested the character's hair transfer.
But for character and outfit transfer, the video I prepared for DAZ > CC4 > UE can help you.

Just a bit of a Caveat to the OP.

If indeed you have been using Daz genesis characters for several years for still images in Daz studio IRay then you have had the full support of the built-in joint control morphs and, Daz only, “HD morphs” to create your high quality stills.

You must understand that current method of “importing” a Daz genesis figure into iclone/CC4 is actually not a literal import but a complex shape projection of the exported Daz FBX onto a CC3/4 native avatar ,creating a reasonable Doppleganger in iclone native format.

this Iclone “clone” of your Daz genesis figure will not have any of the Daz native JCM’s or HD morphs.

As an alternative, you do have the option of importing the Daz figure ,creating animation with Iclone and exporting Bespoke BVH back to Daz studio to apply to a native Daz genesis figure for rendering in Daz studio.

There are video tutorial on this process with IC8/CC4 as well.

I've used DAZ figures for 99% of my animation. As mentioned above, it's a conversion rather than an import so the figures are close enough but look and work slightly differently in CC and iClone. The same goes for hair, clothing, etc.  Transformer does a great job of bringing stuff across but not everything will convert (eg. strand-based hair) and of course, the render engines are different, even the iRay-based one, so textures often need reworking once they get to character creator. Adding cloth and hair physics can also be a little tricky as not every DAZ model is designed in a way that lends itself to easily having that applied in iClone.

You'll find plenty of great tutorials on how to effectively transfer characters and work around most of the issues you'll encounter and I'm sure there are plenty of DAZ users here in this forum who'll be only too happy to answer any other questions.

This is an animation I did almost entirely using DAZ characters and props. There were a few headaches and the occasional hair or clothing item I couldn't convert but nothing that was a show-stopper.
