I love iClone 8, but I was hoping it would finally allow us to have multiple sequences inside a project - not just one. :) Sequences are vital for putting together a complex animation. Would love if this could be incorporated!

Here’s the feedback tracker entry for this suggestion:

I don't quite understand the request. What do you mean by a sequence?

Hi animagic :)

I mean like in premiere or unreal etc? In a project you can have separate sequences, which are different timelines. You can quickly switch between them.

IClone currently works with Projects only, and each project needs you to go to the file menu and open it.

It would be ideal if iClone had projects that were collections of animations that are all part of the same “project” that you’re working on, like other software. So a project is your short film, for example, let’s call it “Bank Heist Madness”. And then you have a sequence for “the arrival” where you make the outside street scene, where they drive up. Then you make a sequence called “entry” where they first enter. Etc.

You can also then keep all your “sequences” for a single film together easily. Plus, you can have folders in the “project” that has copies/links for your most used items. At the moment, you have to drill down into the content tab into /template/custom etc for each individual item. But for the bank heist project, items I want to reuse and selections of mocap I want to use could be in the Project window.

The project-as-sequence setup of iClone was great many years ago, but now iClone is a fully fledged filmmaking powerhouse. :) so a “project + sequences” setup would be much better, in my opinion.

Toby

I see. Given the resources required for a single project already, I don't know if it's technically feasible at the moment. But asking won't hurt, of course.

I'm so used to separate projects in my workflow that I haven't considered a different way.

Yes I love the way it works now, don’t get me wrong. It’s super solid.

I just find that, the more things iClone can do, the more “clicks” it requires for me to get stuff done honestly. :) and I find the Unreal way to work much much faster. And all my “stuff” for a film stays in one place - in a single project!! It’s a dream, because I am jumping between projects all the time. :)

Hey guys, I am currently thinking how to work around it but its quite tricky. The main problem for me is that if you have a continuous sequence of shot within a project and then you want to change say one shot in the middle its absolute madness. You have to really think and move all the keyframes for everything during that shot and it will very likely affect the shots after it. The opposite approach would be to have multiple project as shots but then if you want to change a character or prop, you will have to change it for all the shots. Sadly I experienced similar problems in one proprietary engine I worked with and the only solution was to rewrite few bits and add other functionality to get closer to the Premiere/Unreal sequence handling. What should we do now? Any good lobbyist here? :)
