The laptop should at least have a dedicated GPU (Nvidia preferred), which most standard laptops won't have. Unless you absolutely need to be mobile, a desktop will always give you a more powerful system than a laptop for the same price.

I don't think anyone can give a definitive answer to this. Maybe a standard laptop can do your job for very light and simple tasks. Although the system features required for the program are quite low, you will have problems in large projects. My suggestion is 32gb, 64gb ram if possible and at least 8gb video card. You can also decide by testing the trial versions on your computer. I'm talking for iClone. If you are only going to use CC4, I think you can do your job on a standard computer, although rendering may take a long time. This will be completely proportional to your scene and the intensity of your work. In addition, if you do not have an SSD disk while rendering in video format, your rendering can increase almost 3-4 times.
Official system requirements for iClone 8; https://www.reallusion.com/iclone/download.html
Official system requirements for Character Creator 4; https://www.reallusion.com/character-creator/download.html
My advice is to always buy the best system you can afford. This will make your job easier in the future.

Thank you for your patience and explanations. It helps alot! Would a gaming computer work better with this software? Or would a typical lap top be sufficient?

keith841 (9/5/2022) So, if I got CC4 and iclone8 I would not need Head shot,is that right?
Headshot is a plug-in for Character Creator 4. If you want to create your characters head from photos then you will need Headshot even if you have iClone 8. Headshot doesn't make your character talk. It just uses a photo to create a photorealistic character which can then be made to talk in iClone 8.

keith841 (9/5/2022) Ok, I think I'm getting it now, lol. This is all new for me. thanks. Does Head shot do facial animation or lip sync, or only iclone does that?
Think of it like this. Character Creator 4 is where you create and dress your characters and iClone 8 is where you animate them. iClone 8 + CC4 + Headshot can do everything you need.

keith841 (9/5/2022) Great, thank you. So, do I need software other than CC4 to make my character and render, or CC4 will do everything?
Character Creator 4 allows rendering to video but it remains primarily character creation software. If you want facial animation features like creating automatic lip-sync, or using facial mocap, then you will also need to have iClone 8 (or export to other 3rd party software).

I don't think CC4 allows your character to talk. You can do facial expressions and send them to IC8. There is a Kevin Project that talks in CC4. I don't see AccuLips in CC4.
