I just upgraded to the latest version and when I import my characters as FBX models (exported as FBX from iClone) into Blender I get purple materials for everything. However, when I look at the shadier editor, I can see with my Node Preview tool that the correct files are being found by blender, just not being displayed. Here is another screenshot with more details on the tools settings. I have pressed the Rebuild Advanced Materials and Rebuild Node Groups but nothing is working. Any ideas of what I may be doing wrong? I am setup for Cycles with the non-experimental option selected. - Jeff

What happens when you import a character into a fresh empty blend file?
Have you upgraded the add-on mid project? (if so from which version).
Have you moved the blend file or folders?
What does Files > External Data > Report Missing Files say?

Thanks Victor, I'll start at the bottom of your list of questions as I think it may be the most telling. Files - External Data - Report Missing Files shows that all of the texture files (I assume all, it was a long list that covered alot of body parts) are missing, but it's also looking in the wrong path. Here is the error message: Path 'C:\sanchez_0102.fbm\Std_Tongue_Diffuse.jpg' not found But none of the textures would be at that location. They are all at: D:\CaptSanchez\Season_01\Episode_05\Scene_01\shot_0102\sanchez_0102.fbmIdeally, it should be using a relative path like://sanchez_0102.fbm\filename.jpg
I have not moved the blend files. I did have version 1.3.X (sorry, I don't remember the exact version) loaded when I created the new blend file. Once I opened the tool and saw that there was a newer version, I upgraded to that before importing any characters.
When I import into a new, empty blend file I get the same results:

FYI I just tried it with version 1.3.8 and it works fine. Version 1.4.0 does not show the textures (same as 1.4.3) I hope this info helps! I spoke too soon! When I imported the other character, only half of the textures loaded:

This cannot happen, not in a fresh blend file immediately after an import. At least not without outside interference. If the add-on can't find a texture (at the correct path) it just won't use it. Which means it will use the default colours of the shaders and you would have an all white model, with no textures in any of the materials. But the purple means it did find the texture and tried to load it, but something has then re-written the texture paths before (or during) shader compilation. The only thing I can think of that might do that is another add-on, one perhaps that tries to track and preview the texture output of the material nodes...

One possibility: Try turning off the Material De-duplication option in the Character Build Settings panel. (Before you import the character)

Well, good news, or bad news, depending on how you look at these things. I went to lunch, came back, re-upgraded to 1.4.3 and now it's working fine. As a long-time software developer I hated these intermittent issues most of all. As a user, at least things seem to be working correctly again so I'm off and running! Thanks for your help Victor! I learned a little more about the addon and it's just getting better all the time!

Well the problem is back today but I have some additional information that you may find interesting Victor. First, I noticed in my blender directory that there was still an old version of the plugin: C:\Users\jeff\AppData\Roaming\Blender Foundation\Blender\3.2\scripts\addons\cc_blender_tools-1_3_8\ So I deleted that, and re-installed 1.4.3 (downloaded the ZIP from GitHub and did the install as per usual). I also reduced the number of active add-ons to help eliminate any potential conflicts. I relaunched Blender after each of these changes to ensure a clean load. The problem persists: Using File -> Exrternal Data -> Report MMissing Files yielded the same results as yesterday: Path 'C:\chin.fbm\Std_Tongue_Normal.png' not found I then tried the File -> External Data -> Find Missing Files and pointed Blender to the correct location. That's when I got a more interesting error message: Could not find '_LIB.blend' in 'D:\CaptSanchez\Season_01\Episode_05\Scene_01\shot_0102\chin.fbm\' The _LIB file, of course, lives in the: C:\Users\jeff\AppData\Roaming\Blender Foundation\Blender\3.2\scripts\addons\cc_blender_tools-1_4_3folder and I can verify that it is present there: Along with the previous error message were a slew of other messages like the following (but for vareying textures: Could not find 'Std_Nails_Diffuse.png' in 'D:\CaptSanchez\Season_01\Episode_05\Scene_01\shot_0102\chin.fbm\' And yet I can verify that those files DO indeed exist at that location: That last part, of course is complete unrelated to your addon, some somethings is really odd here. I'll try deleting all of my old Blender installs (Clear that Roaming folder) and do a fresh install of 3.2.2 to see how that goes. I' ll keep you posted!

OK, once I completely removed Blender from my machine and reinstalled from scratch, everything is working as intended. The root cause must have been a configuration in the Blender tool itself that simply manifested itself when using the plugin. Fortunately, reinstalling Blender took only a couple of minutes, so it was an easy fix. One odd thing though, the new install of Blender seemed to recognize the add-ons I had installed before. Not sure how that works, but it all seems fine.

Just a quick followup on this, Victor. I upgraded to Blender 3.3 the day it was released. I hadn't used your plugin since then. Today I did need to use it, so I upgraded to 1.4.8 and had the same problem with the textures on the import. Here is some additional info that may help sort this out: 1) Examining the shaders for the characters and accessories, I could see that the texture files were loading correctly. I use Node Preview and it should the proper textures for everything. 2) When I tried to uninstall your add-on, I got an error message referring to a location in my old Blender 3.2.2 AppData/Roaming/etc folder. Maybe something is getting lost in translation when you do a version upgrade? Anyway, as before I completely wiped Blender from my machine and reinstalled from scratch. Once I did that, your plugin worked like a champ! Now I just have to recreate all of the folder in DecalMachine and KitOps ;)
