There was, if this old mind correctly remembers, a Pixar coded shader that was either hardware dependent (like, requiring NVidia) or perhaps just software only released to the public domain around a decade ago.  Let me see if I can Google it...

Ah - it was called Renderman and it's STILL Pixar's core renderer.  And, yes, it was available for free seven years ago (to this old man that's a decade :>).

https://develop3d.com/develop3d-blog/pixars-renderman-technology-is-now-free-to-download/

Was it ever going to be in iClone? I kind of doubt it, but it would have been amazing to have that tech available to us.  So - not a "toon" shader unless you think of the 3D toons that Pixar creates as toons (they are, of course, just not 2D).

Hi Mike. As per their license, the free version released in 2015 is free for non-commercial use, per user license only. Seeing as they provide a commercial license for $595 per license, I cannot imagine the price of implementing it into software that's sold to users. Implementation for a non-commercial use would be a little far fetched I would say, seeing as a lot (not everyone) uses their renders for commercial use. I would say that the commercial use would mean acquiring revenue from Youtube videos, too. :) I'm not talking on behalf of Reallusion.

No, I understand all that, it's just that someone was talking about Pixar's renderer and that's what they use.  So anything of that nature would be 3D, not 2D.

We're all agreed there will be NO new renderer from RL - not 3D and certainly not 2D.

If you seriously want real-time toon + nice line-art, that looks like the example Megaoutput shows (but better)... then Poser Pro 11 is now just $52 on Renderosity as an all-in one-time purchase. Also gives you access to a thousands of quality low-cost figures. Just saying.

Umm ..no.  Poser is vestigial necroware with no way use your current Iclone/CC4 assets.
better to save that $52 USD and use the free Blender pipeline tool
and the toon matcap renderer in Blender  for a quick and easy cartoon styles as Demonstrate in this tutorial

or if you are keen on spending money on a good looking toon style solution, buy the one from Reallusion

Reallusion indicated in a pre-release video that a pixar quality toon shader was part of the new versions, thanks for clarifying it wasn't.

Kelleytoons, good to see you're still rendering.. you always seem to be well informed about all things Reallusion, could I ask your opinion on a post I made earlier about the best way to economically upgrade?

Pixar doesn't do 2d shaded objects. Most likely any
"pixar" related stuff was referring to the more simplified 3D toon look that some of the 3rd party creators are utilizing. That cartoony stylistic look that's not photoreal but toony like a typical Pixar film. That's pretty much all in the textures.

...or you can just run your textures through a styleGAN to get the look and feel you are looking for.  For example if you want to do a style similar to Arcane. just try running your headshot through ArcaneGAN

https://forum.reallusion.com/uploads/images/e06238cc-f643-4ab2-aa28-a86e.png

You then take you stylized headshot and run it through headshot in CC4 and the character generated will have that skin texture on the face. ... for the rest of the body your better with a self hosted version of the GAN so you can run the other resulting textures through it so you can get them painterly.

If fact you don't even need to worry about any initial stylizing... if you can get your own GAN and customize it, you can just make your footage clean and post process the whole thing after the fact... and you have control over the look itself not just the one model... (that middle image below is the Arcane style...but I'm looking for a more painterly brighter style so I'm working with a look more similar to the one on the right. But you can train a gan to output pretty much any style you want.

 Nice painted look :)
Can this “Style GAN “process an entire scene (props, environments etc) in  realtime?
With the Reallusion Blender  pipeline tool you just import your Characters and switch to the workbench engine and you see your styles in realtime and you are ready to render.
Either painterly or toon/anime styles
